New Zealand may be without their best young player for this summer\u2019s four-Test tour of Australia after Rachin Ravindra dislocated his right shoulder while attempting a diving catch during a promotional shoot in Auckland earlier this week.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old all-rounder landed awkwardly on a safety mat during filming and was later clear of any major structural damage.<\/p>\n

But New Zealand Cricket did not specify how long Ravindra will be sidelined for, saying a timeline would be determined by \u201chis progress during the first weeks of his rehabilitation\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Black Caps are not in action again until India\u2019s all-format tour of New Zealand begins with the first of five T20 internationals on October 22.<\/p>\n

The NZC statement said it was \u201cunclear\u201d if the stylish left-hander would play that series.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a really unfortunate injury,\u201d New Zealand performance manager Mike Sandle said. \u201cWe\u2019re gutted for Rachin and our key priority is making sure he recovers well and gets back on the field as soon as he can.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs with all commercial shoots involving our players, the activities were agreed in advance by all parties, with appropriate safety measures in place. It was a bit of a freak accident, and we\u2019ll continue to review our processes around events like this in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

With two Tests against India in November before the Trans-Tasman Trophy in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney in December and January, losing Ravindra, who averages 47.82 and has scored five centuries in 24 Tests, would be a huge blow for New Zealand.<\/p>\n

After winning a three-Test series in England earlier this year, the Black Caps have their sights set on making the World Test Championship final.<\/p>\n

With that goal in mind, head coach Rob Walter said Ravindra would not be rushed back.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith a heavy schedule of Test cricket in the next six months, we don\u2019t want to rush Rachin back sooner than we need to,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
