RENOWNED engineer Romy Mayer has hailed Radburn Racing for taking the next step in facilitating ongoing female involvement in motorsport.<\/p>\n

Mayer is known for her Supercars exploits at Triple Eight and then PremiAir Racing, but it\u2019s in the Mustang Cup Australia arena that she has been most visible since the birth of her second child in April 2025.<\/p>\n

Mayer was helping the all-female Radburn Racing team from afar before making an appearance at the Darwin round in July.<\/p>\n

Now this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park, she\u2019s been enabled the chance to up the ante on juggling racing with motherhood.<\/p>\n

And she\u2019s not the only one, with chief mechanic Tash Smith also in the same boat.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re always promoting getting more women into motorsport\u2026 at one point comes the time where we start families and women still want to work in motorsport but it\u2019s harder and harder to juggle it all,\u201d Mayer told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that\u2019s been my dilemma, especially the last year now with two kids, that makes it not easy going away, it\u2019s hard to manage.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Radburn Racing) reached out to me in the middle of the year. I was mentoring them a bit at QR and the first couple of rounds from home or between the rounds, just all the basic stuff like tyre pressures, managing the car, the sessions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen my Mum was out from Germany, so she was home with my partner and both kids, and I was able to go to Darwin.<\/p>\n

\u201cTash in Darwin already had her daughter there, he\u2019s the same age as my son, and I was like \u2018my son would actually love that too, especially if he has a friend here\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I was able to bring him to Sydney and Imogen\u2019s mum (Steph) is looking after them. When we\u2019re still working longer in the evening or we come early in the morning to the track, she stays with them at the house and brings them a little bit later.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re preparing lunch at home with her and then on the slushie machine at the track.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s amazing that they give me and Tash the opportunity to bring the kids and have someone to look after them during the day while we do our work.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt gives me the opportunity to come back to the racetrack.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re kind of the first, Radburn Racing, to make the opportunity for mums to go racing again.
