The Newcastle Knights<\/a> have certainly had a standout season this year, with many picking them to miss the top 8 before a ball was kicked in anger. <\/p>\n

The Newcastle side took home the wooden spoon last season; this year they are two games away from a grand final.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There have been multiple standout players for the Knights, but a certain forward has made his mark this season. <\/p>\n

Jermaine McEwen<\/a>, a young second-rower, stood out in the Knights’ and Rabbitohs’ finals clash in a big way, continuing his excellent season.<\/p>\n

McEwen produced a performance that proved to be crucial in their win over South Sydney, scoring two tries, and posing a constant threat with the ball.<\/p>\n

Stars such as Kalyn Ponga<\/a>, Dominic Young<\/a> and Greg Marzhew<\/a> have often dominated the stage for the Knights, making McEwen’s emergence a weapon many teams have simply not been able to come to grips with.<\/p>\n

The young forward made his presence known through his aggression and composure, and the big stage of the finals didn’t seem to shake him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McEwen is still establishing himself in the NRL<\/a> having only debuted in 2025, however, the unlikely star seems ready for his rookie finals series.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Finals create pressure and intensity, but McEwen may have just found the stage he thrives in. His work through the middle and his contribution in attack gave the Newcastle side the edge early in the match to dominate the 80 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The emerging star scored two tries in the regular season; he added two more tries in his first finals game. He averages 105 running metres and has a 91% tackle efficiency to his name, making his impact through power and consistency.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is particularly important for the Knights clash against the Warriors; Newcastle’s forward pack was impressive in their first week of finals, however, they are coming up against arguably the best forward pack in the competition in the Warriors.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McEwen’s performance against the Bunnies highlights the development in his game; starting the finals off strong may just be what the Knights need to do the unthinkable.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If the Warriors dedicate their attention to other stars throughout the field, McEwen can insert his presence and provide impact for the side.<\/p>\n

The Knights are a chance of playing in the grand final this year, make no mistake about it.<\/p>\n
