{"id":898555,"date":"2026-09-20T05:28:15","date_gmt":"2026-09-20T05:28:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/898555\/"},"modified":"2026-09-20T05:28:15","modified_gmt":"2026-09-20T05:28:15","slug":"svg-grinds-out-bristol-night-race-result","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/898555\/","title":{"rendered":"SVG grinds out Bristol Night Race result"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SHANE van Gisbergen has ground out a 20th-place finish from an action-packed NASCAR Cup Series Bristol Night Race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With practice and qualifying rained out, SVG lined up from 22nd for the initial green flag, then moved to 20th at the competition caution on lap 40 of 500.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The #97 restarted from 14th and dropped back before John Hunter Nemechek came to grief.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, by the stage break, van Gisbergen dipped back to 30th, near the tail of the lead lap, with Joey Logano taking the stage win after not pitting during the opening stanza.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second stage ran green until Cody Ware spun near the end, with Ryan Blaney taking the green-and-white chequered flag, with van Gisbergen a lap down in 26th, although reporting improved handling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A crash from Riley Herbst at a crucial time during green-flag pit stops on lap 397 spread the field, with SVG in 26th, mired four laps down on the leader, with only two cars on the front-running lap \u2013 Carson Hocevar and Blaney, who was pinged for a pit commitment cone violation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The subsequent green flag run ended when Ty Gibbs, sporting a Kyle Busch tribute M&amp;M\u2019s livery, pounced on Hocevar in lapped traffic, in the process spinning Alex Bowman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bowman\u2019s Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron then brought out the next caution.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/2026-repco-bathurst-1000-official-program?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=buy-button&amp;utm_content=buy-button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1789882093_285_2026-bathurst-program-2.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eighth caution of the night was a significant one, with Blaney turned into the wall off the bumper of Hocevar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tough race for Hendrick Motorsports then continued when Chase Elliot spun with 23 circuits remaining.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With 14 to go, AJ Allmendinger produced the next yellow, spinning directly ahead of van Gisbergen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the finish, as the leaders carved each other up, Joey Logano swept into the lead, holding on to win from Kyle Larson, Hocevar, Christopher Bell and Gibbs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Van Gisbergen was three laps off the pace in 23rd.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/v8-sleuth-magazine-subscription?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=buy-button&amp;utm_content=buy-button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1789882095_580_sleuth-mag-sub.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Post-race, a scuffle broke out between Blaney and Hocevar in the pits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Provisionally, Larson holds down the points lead over Denny Hamlin and Logano, with SVG holding in 17th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier in the evening, SVG brought a bit of New Zealand music to Tennessee, walking out in driver introductions to Scibe\u2019s \u2018Not Many\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next week, the NASCAR Cup Series Chase continues with a return to Kansas, and the first of a streak of three straight 1.5-mile-long intermediate ovals.<\/p>\n<p>Clear As Mud!
