{"id":899731,"date":"2026-09-21T05:52:13","date_gmt":"2026-09-21T05:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/899731\/"},"modified":"2026-09-21T05:52:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-21T05:52:13","slug":"university-college-london-hiv-injections-work-better-than-tablets-for-young-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/899731\/","title":{"rendered":"University College London | HIV injections work better than tablets for young people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>University College London news release<\/p>\n<p>Young people living with HIV manage their condition better when their antiretroviral therapy is given by injections every eight weeks, rather than in the form of daily tablets<\/p>\n<p>In a paper published in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelancet.com\/journals\/lancet\/article\/PIIS0140-6736(26)01537-0\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Lancet<\/a>, the team found that the injections were more effective at keeping the virus suppressed than the tablets and called for efforts to make this treatment more accessible worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Although HIV is incurable, antiretrovirals can help people live long, healthy lives and greatly reduce the risk of the virus being transmitted to other people.
