Crown prosecutor Brett Hatfield, SC, has alleged the relationship between Beau Lamarre-Condon and Jesse Baird is central to the motive in the murder case against Lamarre-Condon.

Hatfield tells the jury that Baird was 26 years old at the time of his death and Lamarre-Condon was 28.

He foreshadows the court will hear evidence from a number of witnesses that “paint a picture” of Baird’s attitude towards Lamarre-Condon and the latter’s obsessive and jealous response to it.

Hatfield says witnesses will tell the court that Lamarre-Condon appeared “in love or at least completely infatuated” with Baird and would describe him as “the one”, but that Baird did not reciprocate. This engendered in the accused “a significant degree of jealousy” and intrusive, obsessive and compulsive behaviour, Hatfield says.

Baird had moved to Sydney for work in 2022, the court hears, and he initially lived in Drummoyne and moved to Paddington with two housemates in 2023.

Baird was raised in Victoria before moving to Brisbane at 19, where he worked in television including Ten’s Totally Wild and Studio Ten, Hatfield says. At the time of his alleged murder, he was due to start work as a producer at a television production company, the court hears.

Luke Davies was 29 years old and was raised in Queensland.
