Chief technical officer Enrico Cardile has declared that the Aston Martin<\/a> AMR27 \u201cwill be a completely new car\u201d for the F1 2027 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And he hinted that Adrian Newey is \u201cnot tied\u201d to the team\u2019s current development path despite the AMR27 being expected to be an \u201cevolution\u201d of the 2026 car.<\/p>\n

\u2018Every single part will be new\u2019 on Aston Martin AMR27<\/p>\n

Aston Martin approached the F1 2026 season with high expectations following the arrival of Newey and Honda, Red Bull\u2019s previous engine supplier.<\/p>\n

However, the team has been restricted to just three points so far this season,, leaving Aston Martin sitting 10th in the Constructors\u2019 standings.<\/p>\n

The Silverstone-based outfit has taken an encouraging step forward in recent months, with the team introducing a B-spec car at the Hungarian Grand Prix in July.<\/p>\n

That was followed by a Honda engine upgrade at the Dutch Grand Prix, where Fernando Alonso recorded the team\u2019s best result of the season with ninth place.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Aston Martin\u2019s official website<\/a>, Cardile \u2013 who arrived at Silverstone in 2025 following a stint as Ferrari\u2019s technical chief \u2013 has offered the first clues about the AMR27 car for next season.<\/p>\n

Asked how the car will evolve for 2027, Cardile said: \u201cEvery single part will be new. Everything will have been improved.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut conceptually, it will be an evolution of the direction we took with this year\u2019s car.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re on the right path now, but we\u2019re not tied to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s put it this way: when it comes to tackling the \u201927 project, we haven\u2019t placed any constraints on ourselves in terms of trying to carry anything over from the previous car.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this sense, it will be a completely new car, and it gives us the freedom and mindset to achieve what we want.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cardile went on to explain that Aston Martin\u2019s target for the remainder of this season is to gain as much knowledge as possible to inform decisions for the 2027 chassis.<\/p>\n

On how he will reflect when this season is over, he said: \u201cI think I\u2019ll only want to talk about 2027.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur task now is to extract as much information as we can from 2026 because all of that will guide the 2027 project.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom now on, it\u2019s a daily challenge in every area: finding more downforce, reducing weight, giving the engineering group more time to run in the wind tunnel, to revisit concepts, to refine components.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the end of the year, I expect most of our conversation will be about what we\u2019ve learned and how it\u2019s shaping the 2027 car.\u201d<\/p>\n

The regulations will be adjusted for the 2027 season, with Formula 1 moving away from the current 50:50 split between internal combustion and electrical power. The chassis rules will also be tweaked slightly.<\/p>\n

Newey previously highlighted a change to the area at the front of the floor<\/a>, often described as the \u2018bib\u2019 or \u2018tea tray\u2019, as a key area to get right in 2027.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cThe most obvious changes [for 2027] are on the power unit side: five per cent extra fuel, some adjustments to energy storage and deployment and some finer tweaks.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the chassis side, the changes are fewer but still significant. The biggest is to what\u2019s often called the \u2018bib\u2019 or \u2018tea tray\u2019 at the front of the floor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe leading edge has been moved by about 300 millimetres, which allows you to run the front of the car lower. That brings a different set of aerodynamic characteristics.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s also a slightly shallower rear wing to reduce downforce, some changes to the front of the floor \u2013 the \u2018bear claws\u2019 or \u2018fingers\u2019 reducing from five to three \u2013 and the removal of various tricks teams have been using around the exhaust and rear wing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe key one for us is that front\u2011of\u2011floor change. It gives everyone a different aero challenge to solve.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause we\u2019ve effectively been forced to grow up quickly as a team over the last 12 months, we\u2019re in a much better place to capitalise on the regulation changes than we would have been a year ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re a much more mature organisation now, and that leaves me very optimistic about what\u2019s to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
