Galway Bay and Fortwilliam added their own chapters to club history at Thurles Golf Club on Sunday as the AIG All-Ireland Cups and Shields Finals delivered another weekend of national competition.<\/p>\n

Galway Bay captured the club\u2019s first AIG Men\u2019s Jimmy Bruen Shield, adding its first national title to the Galway club\u2019s honours list.<\/p>\n

Fortwilliam ended an even longer wait.\u00a0 The Belfast club secured the AIG Women\u2019s Minor Cup and, in doing so, won its first Women\u2019s All-Ireland pennant in 135 years.<\/p>\n

The victories came during a weekend which brought clubs and supporters from across the island to Thurles for the culmination of Golf Ireland\u2019s national inter-club competitions.<\/p>\n

Portumna and Naas were among Saturday\u2019s winners before the attention turned to the Jimmy Bruen and Women\u2019s Minor Cup competitions on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The championships form an important part of AIG\u2019s long-standing relationship with Golf Ireland and give the insurer a sponsorship footprint that extends deep into the club game.<\/p>\n

While elite golf has dominated much of the sporting conversation in Ireland in recent weeks, from the KPMG Women\u2019s Irish Open at the K Club to the Walker Cup at Lahinch and the Amgen Irish Open at Doonbeg, the AIG championships operate at the other end of the sport.<\/p>\n

These competitions are where players, supporters, and stories emerge directly from clubs and their local communities.<\/p>\n
