After first being announced back in late 2024, the upcoming \u201cStar Wars\u201d film trilogy being penned by Simon Kinberg may now have finally landed a director.<\/p>\n

In a posting on X<\/a> (via SHH<\/a>), journalist Caleb Williams says: \u201cA director has been found for the new #StarWars trilogy by screenwriter Simon Kinberg. Kinberg wasn\u2019t considered.\u201d<\/p>\n

The scooper did not specify which helmer they\u2019ve heard has landed the gig, but do add: \u201cproduction is picking up steam FAST and could begin filming as early as next year.\u201d<\/p>\n

There has been no confirmation from either Lucasfilm or the trades that the films have moved beyond the development stage, let alone secured a director.<\/p>\n

Kinberg is best known for his work on the scripts for films like Guy Ritchie\u2019s \u201cSherlock Holmes,\u201d Doug Liman\u2019s \u201cMr. and Mrs. Smith\u201d and \u201cJumper,\u201d Josh Trank\u2019s 2015 \u201cFantastic Four,\u201d and multiple \u201cX-Men\u201d films as well as creating \u201cStar Wars: Rebels\u201d.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also a prolific producer on films like \u201cLogan,\u201d \u201cDeadpool\u201d and \u201cThe Martian\u201d with recent works including Apple TV\u2019s \u201cSugar\u201d and Edgar Wright\u2019s \u201cThe Running Man\u201d film. As a director, however, his two films \u201cX-Men: Dark Phoenix\u201d and \u201cThe 355\u201d were critical and commercial flops.<\/p>\n
