SWAN TO SIGN HUGE RIVAL DEAL

Sydney free agent Joel Amartey is set to inform the Swans of his preference to sign with Carlton.

The key forward, who can sign wherever he likes without Sydney resistance, had been weighing up five-year deals from both the Swans and Blues.

But according to SEN’s Tom Morris, Amartey intends to join Carlton, which offered $1 million more than Sydney over the life of the deals — $200,000 more per season.

The Swans will hope Band 1 free agency compensation is in the offing.

The 27-year-old missed the back end of the year recovering from an Achilles injury, and wasn’t able to break into Dean Cox’s finals team.

Amartey was reportedly keen on staying in the Harbour City, but the Blues’ lucrative offer is one he can’t refuse, and he’s set to make that intention clear at his upcoming exit meeting.

The 76-gamer kicked 28 goals from 15 matches this season, after 13 majors from eight senior games in 2025.

He’s set to join forces with Harry McKay, with the Blues having been keen on giving the big left-footer a partner in crime.

OUT-OF-CONTRACT GIANTS FIRMS FOR MOVE

GWS forward Jake Riccardi is reportedly firming for a move to Essendon this season, with the Victorian still yet to sign a three-year offer from western Sydney a month after their season finished.

Nine’s Owen Leonard reported on Monday night that the 26-year-old, who grew up a Bombers fan, is seriously considering a move which would see him play under new head coach Mark McVeigh.

“My understanding, as it stands, is he’s firming to nominate Essendon,” Leonard said.

“He’s a St Bernard’s student and a Bombers fan growing up, which does always help.”

Riccardi’s now-likely move comes after Toby Greene’s decision to exercise his right as an unrestricted free agent and join Geelong this off-season.

2024 Coleman Medallist Jesse Hogan was delisted by the club last month and will join Collingwood, while ruck Kieran Briggs is set to join Richmond on a four-year deal.

Additionally, Jake Stringer was farewelled by the club after his Round 24 match against Adelaide, where he kicked six goals. No clubs have been heavily linked with the 32-year-old yet.

A Sydney free agent has reportedly made his free agency decision.
