Isack Hadjar will be back in action for Red Bull at Formula 1’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix this weekend after recovering from the fractured wrist he suffered during the summer break.<\/p>\n
Hadjar hurt himself during a gym training session shortly before the Dutch GP at Zandvoort, with the injury leaving him unable to drive.<\/p>\n
He was forced to miss the races in the Netherlands, Italy and Spain while his wrist healed, with Red Bull not wanting to take any risks in rushing him back.<\/p>\n
Hadjar said he was “just so excited to get back into my car” and emphasised the importance of being adequately prepared for the Baku street circuit, one that “you need to be locked in for from the very start of the weekend”.<\/p>\n
“The last month has been tricky for me; it’s the first time in my life that I’ve not been racing and that’s a weird feeling to get used to,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I want to thank Laurent [Mekies, Red Bull team principal] and the team for their patience throughout this process; it was important not to rush the decision and now I feel ready to get back to what I do best – driving.”<\/p>\n
Racing Bulls’s regular Liam Lawson stepped up into his place and took seventh place at Zandvoort, later following that up with sixth in Spain.<\/p>\n
He had had a tougher time at Monza, thanks to an engine penalty that put him at the back of the grid and then his hopes in the race being dashed by a damaged front wing that he picked up in a clash with Nico Hulkenberg.<\/p>\n
Lawson had welcomed the opportunity to show what he could at Red Bull’s main team, having had a troubled time with the squad at the start of 2025 when he was dropped after just two races.<\/p>\n
“It’s been overall quite positive,” said Lawson. “I managed to score in two of the three. I think Monza was tough just with the whole layout of the weekend, and then the engine penalty. Then obviously having damage in the race really ruined it for us.<\/p>\n
“But I think overall we’ve had good speed.”<\/p>\n
With Hadjar now back in action, Lawson will return to Racing Bulls, meaning that his own temporary replacement Yuki Tsunoda will go back to his regular reserve driver role.<\/p>\n
