The family of missing boy Gus Lamont are preparing to search eagle nests at the outback property for any trace of the child, as the anniversary of his mysterious disappearance looms.<\/p>\n
7News exclusively revealed the detail after speaking to the child\u2019s grandmother, Josie Murray, on the family\u2019s remote Oak Park Station in Grampus, near Yunta.<\/p>\n
Gus, then four, was last seen playing near the homestead on September 27 last year.<\/p>\n
Ms Murray said she believes the youngster was abducted.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, Ms Murray said the family was preparing to search eagle nests on the property, on the theory Gus was taken by a wedge-tailed eagle.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe eagle aspect should be looked at,\u201d she told 7News.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s highly unlikely, but it\u2019s not impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Murray also issued a plea for police to not treat her as a suspect.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me to know they are wasting their time, and their time would be better spent trying to find out what did happen to him, is enormously frustrating,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The update comes as police push for a reward to be offered for information into Gus\u2019 disappearance.<\/p>\n
9News reports a major announcement from Gus\u2019 parents is imminent, ahead of the one-year anniversary of his disappearance.<\/p>\n
7News had earlier shared footage of the very spot the boy was last seen in, where Ms Murray revealed what she believed happened on that fateful day in September 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt brings me to tears that he is not here,\u201d Ms Murray said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs far as I\u2019m concerned I still want to know the answer of what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
She claims that police have named her as the current sole suspect in the case, having ruled out other working theories on the boy\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n
But Ms Murray maintains her innocence, revealing a bombshell theory to 7News reporter Hannah Foord.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think he has to have been taken \u2013 nothing else makes sense,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Gus\u2019 disappearance sparked the largest search operation in South Australian history, involving police officers, Aboriginal trackers and community volunteers.<\/p>\n
The mystery of Gus\u2019s disappearance has captured the curiosity and imagination of the nation, and beyond.<\/p>\n
However, with the anniversary of his disappearance on Sunday, it remains a tragic mystery.<\/p>\n
Since his disappearance, police have returned to the remote outback station on several separate occasions, especially in days following heavy rainfall, but have been unable to find answers.<\/p>\n
In a previous interview with Spotlight, Ms Murray denied having anything to do with Gus\u2019 disappearance and detailed how the family frantically searched for him.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve said they don\u2019t think I\u2019ve hurt him, they think that I\u2019ve buried him \u2013 that\u2019s one of the theories they\u2019re working on,\u201d Ms Murray told Spotlight.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor so many reasons it\u2019s ludicrous. It doesn\u2019t make sense. Why would you do that to yourself?\u201d<\/p>\n
She said the family first noticed the little boy had gone missing at about 5.30pm after not being seen for 30 minutes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were on the front veranda and she (Gus\u2019 grandmother Shannon) said that Gus was just down near what we call the bomb shelter plane and when we had a look, no sign,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd we said to Shannon \u2018when did you last see him?\u2019 And she said \u2018five o\u2019clock\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had a quick conference and decided what to do, and we decided we better jump on the bikes and go and look.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what time that was, but after we\u2019d searched on foot, I remember saying \u2018we\u2019ve got 45 minutes of daylight, we better get on with it\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
