With the war with Iran approaching the seven-month mark and no end in sight, Mr Trump said he was facing a “big decision”: Strike a deal that allowed Iran to rebuild or “annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly”.<\/p>\n

They’re waiting to see how I do in the midterm election.”<\/p>\n Mr Trump later said US and Iranian officials held a “very good meeting” over several hours on the sidelines of the summit.\u00a0<\/p>\n Previous peace talks between the two countries have failed to make meaningful progress since a preliminary agreement was signed by both nations in June<\/a>.<\/p>\n During his speech, Mr Trump suggested Cuba was the US’s next target, predicting its communist dictatorship “will fall”, but also saying “let’s see what happens” in negotiations with the US.\u00a0<\/p>\n His comments prompted a walk-out by the Cuban delegation.<\/p>\n He also used his address to predict, as he has repeatedly in the past, that he would end the Russia-Ukraine war soon.<\/p>\n “It’s going to happen, I think, more quickly than people understand,” he said.<\/p>\n Renaming AI and rejecting regulation<\/p>\n On the dangers of AI, which Mr Trump has been downplaying as a “hoax”, he conceded there was a need to “be careful”.\u00a0<\/p>\n But he also said the US “totally rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control the artificial intelligence being spoken of so much now”.<\/p>\n The comment represented a smackdown of a global body proposed by a coalition of middle power nations, including Australia, in a statement<\/a> signed on the sidelines of the summit yesterday.<\/p>\n In a surprise announcement, Mr Trump also said he was “changing the name” of AI.\u00a0<\/p>\n He said he was ordering the US government to start referring to “artificial intelligence” as “super intelligence” in all official documents, and he hoped the world would follow.<\/p>\n “The use of the word ‘artificial’ makes intelligence fake. It makes it sound fake and it is not fake,” he said.<\/p>\n “It’s actually amazing.”<\/p>\n The term “superintelligence” is already defined as an advanced form of artificial intelligence that exceeds human capabilities.<\/p>\n
