{"id":901989,"date":"2026-09-23T02:26:28","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T02:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/901989\/"},"modified":"2026-09-23T02:26:28","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T02:26:28","slug":"bathurst-1000-nathan-herne-reveals-focus-of-garry-rogers-motorsports-final-winton-test-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/901989\/","title":{"rendered":"Bathurst 1000: Nathan Herne reveals focus of Garry Rogers Motorsport&#8217;s final Winton test day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THE key items on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-354-Garry-Rogers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garry Rogers<\/a> Motorsport\u2019s agenda for its second and final pre-Bathurst 1000 test day are pitstops and driver changes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-24-James-Moffat\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Moffat<\/a>, Nathan Herne and the entire GRM crew yesterday got stuck in learning the Gen3 Chevrolet Camaro package in the first of two consecutive days at Winton Motor Raceway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFirst session we didn\u2019t have the ergonomics quite right and I hopped out of the car thinking \u2018holy hell the thing is hard to drive\u2019,\u201d Herne told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThen we fiddled with the pedals a bit and got myself a bit more comfortable and more at home like in my Trans Am, and then it all clicked and the day was off and running.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was shocked how sensitive to inputs these cars are and how much tuning you can do as a driver based on the input you give the car. So that was the big learning for me (on Tuesday).\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/GRM-Wildcard-Test-49-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-265636\"  \/>Pic: Supplied\/High Performance Media<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now the focus pivots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo really practice driver changes and pitstops and all that sort of stuff we\u2019ve never done before, that\u2019s going to be the interesting stuff to try to nail down and get right,\u201d said Herne.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey\u2019re very hard to get in and out of, these cars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe first time hopping in the car I felt like there were limbs going everywhere. We\u2019ll try to get our head around it. Me and Moff, we practiced a few inside the workshop before we got here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey definitely make it look easier on TV, I\u2019ll say that much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/2026-repco-bathurst-1000-official-program?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=buy-button&amp;utm_content=buy-button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/1790130381_326_2026-bathurst-program-2.jpg\"\/><\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herne will be the only driver on Supercars Championship debut out of the 52 taking part in the Repco Bathurst 1000 (October 8-11).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s anticipated he will likely qualify Car #34.
