The Gimme 5 roadshow continues this fortnight with events in the Bellarine\/Geelong, Richmond, Footscray & Niddrie, and Moonee Valley.<\/p>\n

Join a\u00a0family-friendly community ride<\/a>\u00a0on Friday 25 September in Portarlington to ride the coastal trail and hear about how dedicated cycling funding would benefit locals.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Also on Friday 25 September, Geelong riders can attend a community meeting<\/a> at Geelong West Neighbourhood House to share local stories about active transport, meet state election candidates and learn about the Gimme 5 campaign.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The Gimme 5 roadshow is part of the Gimme 5 campaign led by Bicycle Network and supported by over 40 bicycle user groups, Streets Alive communities and other grassroots organisations.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The campaign asks the state government to commit to spending 5% of Victoria\u2019s transport budget on developing the strategic cycling corridors (SCCs).<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The SCCs were developed by the state government and form a network of essential cycling routes that connect key destinations across the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n There is no dedicated budget for building the SCC network, even though the Victorian Government wants 25% of all trips to be active by 2030 and roughly\u00a075% of Victorians report being interested in riding, with the biggest barrier to uptake being a lack of protected infrastructure.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n You can learn more about the Gimme 5 campaign and write to your local MP or state election candidates to ask them to support the cause here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Like our articles?<\/p>\n Become a Member and help fund our advocacy work.<\/p>\n
