Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn spent a length of time with The Stomping Ground to gloat about what\u2019s now expected to be an Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight \u2014 actually in the UK! Although the formal announcement has yet to come, all current indications are that it\u2019s imminent and that means Hearn can\u2019t help but turn the screw on good ol\u2019 friend Dana White, who had tried to push his own agenda on staging the fight in America.<\/p>\n
So, during a segment when Hearn would be asked whether he thought White was good for boxing, he didn\u2019t deny that having more investment and eyes on the sport is a good thing, but he also can\u2019t help but chuckle at how the company is tricking fighters out of position for their own benefit.<\/p>\n
\u201cJai Opetaia is a great example,\u201d Hearn said. \u201cJai Opetaia, all he wanted to do was be undisputed. That\u2019s his whole aim, he wants to unify the division, blah, blah, blah. He signs with Zuffa and he says \u2018I can\u2019t wait to be undisputed\u2019. Zuffa have in turn come out and said \u2018we\u2019re not going to work with any of the belts\u2019. He gets stripped of his IBF title, so he\u2019s no longer a world champion, then all the sudden he\u2019s fighting the WBC world champion.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo he goes \u2018it\u2019s really good now, I know I lost my IBF belt but I\u2019m now fighting for the WBC world title\u2019. He fights Mikaelian, the fight is not sanctioned by the WBC because Mikaelian had an order to fight David Benavidez. Jai wins, thinks he\u2019s WBC world champion \u2014 the belt\u2019s vacant. So he doesn\u2019t have one belt in boxing.<\/p>\n
