{"id":90296,"date":"2025-08-23T15:38:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T15:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/90296\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T15:38:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T15:38:08","slug":"whining-lewis-hamilton-leaves-ferrari-annoyed-in-biting-montoya-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/90296\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Whining&#8217; Lewis Hamilton leaves Ferrari &#8216;annoyed&#8217; in biting Montoya analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ferrari has become \u201cannoyed\u201d with what the team perceives as Lewis Hamilton\u2019s \u201cwhining\u201d over the course of the F1 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p>That is the claim of former Williams and McLaren driver Juan Pablo Montoya, who believes the team only want Hamilton for marketing reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Montoya: Ferrari \u2018just want Lewis Hamilton for his name\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton has had an unhappy first season at Ferrari having failed to score a podium across the first half of the F1 2025 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Although he is understood to be under contract until at least the end of 2026, Hamilton appeared to cast doubt over his own future at the recent Hungarian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>After qualifying a distant 12th on a day team-mate Charles Leclerc claimed Ferrari\u2019s first pole position of F1 2025, Hamilton repeatedly referred to himself as \u201cuseless\u201d before suggesting that Ferrari should consider replacing him.<\/p>\n<p>Lewis Hamilton vs Charles Leclerc: Ferrari head-to-head scores for F1 2025<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/f1-2025-qualifying-head-to-head-team-mates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">F1 2025: Head-to-head qualifying statistics between team-mates<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc49\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/f1-2025-race-head-to-head-team-mates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">F1 2025: Head-to-head race statistics between team-mates<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The seven-time World Champion later alluded to potential trouble behind the scenes at Ferrari, commenting:\u00a0\u201cThere\u2019s a lot going on in the background that\u2019s not great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/lewis-hamilton-ferrari-latest-update-future-announcement-retirement\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">briefly raised doubts over his participation in the rest of this season<\/a>, quipping that he will \u201chopefully\u201d be back in action when F1 2025 resumes at the Dutch Grand Prix, before insisting that the \u201cfight\u2019s not over \u2013 don\u2019t count me out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton\u2019s cryptic comments in Hungary came just a week after the 40-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/lewis-hamilton-ferrari-meeting-emergency-crunch-time\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spoke at length of his desire to make a success<\/a> of his Ferrari career, revealing that he has submitted a series of \u201cdocuments\u201d to propose changes to the team and the car.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to media including PlanetF1.com at the Belgian Grand Prix, Hamilton said that his willingness to \u201cgo the extra mile\u201d is driven by his \u201crefusal\u201d to follow in the footsteps of Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, established champions who failed to win the title with Ferrari.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/lewis-hamilton-ferrari-fred-vasseur-reaction-problems\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">raised concerns over Hamilton\u2019s approach<\/a> to tackling his 2025 issues.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with Germany\u2019s Auto Motor und Sport, Vasseur claimed that Hamilton \u201csometimes exaggerates the problems he sees in the car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vasseur went on to argue that Hamilton\u2019s \u201cextreme\u201d reaction in the media only makes matters \u201cworse\u201d, claiming that the driver is \u201ctoo hard\u201d on both himself and the car.<\/p>\n<p>Montoya, who claimed seven wins in 94 F1 starts between 2001 and 2006, believes that the recent comments made by Hamilton and Vasseur are a sign of tension between team and driver with Ferrari growing \u201ctired\u201d of Hamilton\u2019s \u201cwhining.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He told a gambling platform: \u201cMy point of view of what he is saying is that Ferrari are not really paying attention to him and they just want him there for his name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he\u2019s pushing and maybe people are getting annoyed at how hard he\u2019s pushing and maybe getting tired of what they see as his whining.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is trying to move the world by himself. And I think he needs more people in his corner to be able to get more done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear if relations between Hamilton and Vasseur, who oversaw the driver\u2019s title-winning GP2 season as boss of the ART Grand Prix team in 2006, have become strained as the F1 2025 campaign has developed.<\/p>\n<p>In the aftermath of the Miami Grand Prix in May, Hamilton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/fred-vasseur-declares-not-the-story-of-the-day-lewis-hamilton-photos\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">revealed publicly that he told Vasseur<\/a> to \u201ccalm down\u201d and \u201cdon\u2019t be so sensitive\u201d after a race in which he was heard having a number of tense exchanges with his race engineer, Riccardo Adami, over team radio.<\/p>\n<p>The pair were also spotted having an animated discussion inside Ferrari\u2019s hospitality unit after the race in Florida (below).<\/p>\n<p>    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ps-lazy-img size-medium wp-image-880173\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/lewis-hamilton-fred-vasseur-ferrari-miami-2025-planetf1-410x424.jpg\" alt=\"Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and Fred Vasseur in discussion at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Ferrari\u2019s Lewis Hamilton and Fred Vasseur in discussion in Miami<\/p>\n<p>However, Hamilton spoke in support of Vasseur when reports emerged at the Canadian Grand Prix in June that the team boss\u2019s position was under threat, claiming the Frenchman is \u201cthe main reason\u201d he joined Ferrari.<\/p>\n<p>Vasseur went on to sign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/fred-vasseur-signs-multi-year-contract-ferrari\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a multi-year contract extension with Ferrari<\/a> on the eve of the Hungarian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton said in Montreal: \u201cFirstly, I love working with Fred.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFred\u2019s the main reason I\u2019m in this team and I got the opportunity to be here \u2013 for which I\u2019m forever grateful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re in this together. We\u2019re working hard in the background.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings aren\u2019t perfect. But as I said, I\u2019m here to work with the team and with Fred.
