{"id":903293,"date":"2026-09-24T04:00:14","date_gmt":"2026-09-24T04:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/903293\/"},"modified":"2026-09-24T04:00:14","modified_gmt":"2026-09-24T04:00:14","slug":"birmingham-museum-of-art-showcases-200-years-of-black-american-art-in-new-exhibit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/903293\/","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham Museum of Art showcases 200 years of Black American art in new exhibit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Birmingham Museum of Art showcases 200 years of Black American art in new exhibit<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/2a0b4094-2acc-4540-b0eb-cafafdcde860_1729194105.jpg\" width=\"48\" height=\"48\" alt=\"Lynne Keenum\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>BIRMINGHAM, Ala. \u2014<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"0\">The Birmingham Museum of Art is showcasing 200 years of Black American art in a new exhibit featuring works from the museum\u2019s permanent collection.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"1\">\u201cRoll Call: Two Hundred Years of Black American Art\u201d includes pieces by more than 250 Black American artists. The museum acquired its first piece for the collection in 1971.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"2\">The exhibit includes a variety of mediums, including photography, paintings and sculptures.<\/p>\n<p data-node-id=\"3\">&#8220;The BMA strives to collect works that represent our city, the visitors that we want to feel welcome at the museum, but also just continue to tell stories that haven&#8217;t been historically told at the museum,&#8221; said Interim Director Chantal Drake. &#8220;We want people to feel seen and we want them to understand perspectives.
