Stray Kids will meet with Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum and her South Korean counterpart, Lee Jae Myung, Thursday (Sept. 24) during the official visit of the South Korean leader to the National Palace, the presidential residence in Mexico City. Sheinbaum confirmed the participation of the K-pop group in the bilateral meeting, which will primarily address topics such as trade and investment cooperation as well as the expansion of South Korean cultural content in the Latin American nation.

“The group coming is called Stray Kids,” she said during her Thursday morning press conference. “They’re kind of like BTS, but younger. I don’t know if they’re boys and girls — they’re young, younger than the members of BTS.”

The ages of the BTS members range from 29 to 33, while Stray Kids are aged 25 to 28.

“What is known as K-pop has been very successful in various areas, including music, movies and TV series, and that has brought Mexican and Korean youth closer together,” Sheinbaum explained. “This is part of what we will discuss.”

The Mexican president also confirmed that her government will gift 10 tickets to children from low-income families for the show Stray Kids will hold at Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City on Friday (Sept. 25); the tickets will be given through the National System for Integral Family Development in Mexico.

When asked whether there is a possibility that Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin and I.N. could perform a free concert in Mexico City’s Zócalo, the country’s main public square, she responded, “We’ll see.”

Stray Kids will become the second K-pop group to meet with the president of Mexico this year, following the global giant BTS. During BTS’ visit last May, the members appeared on one of the balconies of the presidential residence and waved to approximately 50,000 fans waiting for them in the Zócalo, according to figures from the Mexico City government.

Months earlier, the Mexican president had written a letter to President Lee Jae Myung requesting more BTS concerts in the country. Sheinbaum’s request came amid controversy over the presale and high demand for tickets for BTS’ shows at Estadio GNP Seguros, prompting the Mexican government to demand transparency from Ticketmaster Mexico in the ticket sales process.

According to a press release, HYBE — the South Korean entertainment company behind BTS and other major groups — is consolidating its presence in Latin America starting with Mexico, where the company has established local operations, proprietary infrastructure, specialized teams, and talent development projects aimed at creating new opportunities for global entertainment from the region.

Stray Kids will meet with Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum and her South Korean counterpart, Lee Jae Myung, Thursday…

[28
64,63,134,3387,5273,136,9057
post-904118","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-music","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-entertainment","tag-genre-kpop","tag-genre-latin","tag-music","tag-music-news
["GET
