Hamilton was on an out-lap in his Ferrari when the Racing Bulls driver approached at high speed.<\/p>\n

Lawson was forced to take evasive action when the preceding Hamilton failed to move off the racing line between Turn 16 and 18.<\/p>\n

The race director\u2019s competition notes require drivers not on a flying lap to remain on the extreme left from the exit of Turn 16 to the entry of Turn 18.<\/p>\n

The seven-time F1 champion was warned twice of the approaching car but failed to move off the racing line.<\/p>\n

Lawson radioed to his team, \u201cThat is so f***ing dangerous. Oh my god. Dude, that is so dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamilton was summoned by the stewards and given a reprimand for the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe normal penalty for an impeding infringement during free practice is a warning unless it is dangerous or with intent,\u201d the stewards said in their report.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this case, there was no intent but given the layout and the high speed corners as well as the specific instructions given by the race director, the impeding in the stewards\u2019 opinion was severe.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Stewards also took into account the difficulty to manage the energy deployment from Turn 16 to Turn 19 and the end of the lap.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdditionally, both drivers mentioned during the hearing that when a driver has no more energy to deploy the difference of speed between the two cars in that specific section is important.<\/p>\n

\u201cTaking these circumstances into account, the stewards impose a driving reprimand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hamilton explained the act was not intentional and a symptom of the new-for-2026 regulations.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just with Liam. Naturally, it\u2019s never an intention I think from any driver to get in the way,\u201d Hamilton told Sky Sports F1.<\/p>\n

\u201cBasically, with the way the rules are set\u2026 when you come around the last corner to start your lap, you have no K, so you have no battery deployment.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just have the ICE (internal combustion engine) basically. So something like 500hp less.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no guidelines also of how big a gap you have to understand the closing speed that you\u2019re going to have with a guy that\u2019s on their [flying] lap.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was four seconds ahead. I was like \u2018this looks big enough\u2019. I got on the power and then once I got into [Turn] 18 the speed deficit was huge and there was nowhere I could go at that point.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, unfortunate, but it gives us good guidelines as to what to change potentially for tomorrow.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut that\u2019s not the driver\u2019s fault. That\u2019s what the FIA did on the decisions at the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to manage the best we can as drivers on track in finding the right gap and not getting in the way of people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson sympathised with Hamilton, echoing his sentiment about the controversial regulations.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunately the way the regulations are,\u201d said Lawson.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s quite sketchy for either one of us. To be honest, there\u2019s not a lot that you can do when you look at it.<\/p>\n

\u201cLewis is full throttle, got two, three seconds to me, which is normally plenty, but the speed difference is so big.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not deploying anything, I\u2019m deploying everything and you have 60 to 80 km\/h speed difference, which is bad.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he gets out of the way before, slows down and then there\u2019s another car behind me, then the speed difference is enormous.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce you come out of that corner and you\u2019re committed, there\u2019s nothing that you can do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawson finds early pace on Racing Bulls return<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Hamilton said the moment would be discussed in the drivers briefing.<\/p>\n

He explained one of the proposals included allowing drivers maximum power coming out of Turn 18 and 19 and then resets out of Turn 19.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are tracks where you\u2019re not allowed to go slow in a certain section, and they should just give us power through that section,\u2019 Hamilton explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if you\u2019re on a slow lap, you have to go full gas and you have maximum power through [Turns] 18 ad 19 and you\u2019ll never be in anyone\u2019s way.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll talk about it in driver\u2019s briefing and hopefully we come to some sort of conclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n
