(Photo: Dario Belingheri\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Updated September 24, 2026 06:18PM<\/p>\n<p>Montr\u00e9al worlds delivered its first breakout star Thursday with Spain\u2019s <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/benjamin-noval\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Benjam\u00edn Noval<\/a> winning the men\u2019s junior road race.<\/p>\n<p>The 17-year-old attacked late in Thursday\u2019s 134km race and soloed home to victory to add the road title to the time trial crown he won two days before.<\/p>\n<p>One of cycling\u2019s most closely watched prospects delivered on the hype in the first day of road racing at the <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/uci-road-world-championships\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">UCI Road World Championships<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank all my teammates. Everyone did a great job for me during the entire race,\u201d Noval said. \u201cI felt good and when I saw the moment, I attacked, I got a gap, I didn\u2019t look back and just pushed to the finish line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Noval\u2019s time trial victory had already marked him as a favorite for Thursday\u2019s race. He still had to find the opening, make the move, and hold off the chase.<\/p>\n<p>American <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/enzo-hincapie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Enzo Hincapie<\/a> finished eighth in the chasing group, 2:26 behind Noval, to lead Team USA.<\/p>\n<p>Road racing opened earlier Thursday with the women\u2019s U23 race, with Slovakia\u2019s Vikt\u00f3ria Chlado\u0148ov\u00e1, 19, outsprinting Canada\u2019s Isabella Holmgren to win the rainbow jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Fast track for the WorldTour<br \/>\n<img alt=\"Benjam\u00edn Noval Netcompany INEOS \" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1007046\" style=\"color:transparent\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/GettyImages-2296616811.jpg\"\/>Noval, who turns 18 next month, will join the WorldTour in 2027.  (Photo: Dario Belingheri\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>The double puts Noval in rare company.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/remco-evenepoel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Remco Evenepoel<\/a> was the last rider to win both junior world titles in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The name will be familiar to longtime fans. His father, also Benjam\u00edn Noval, rode alongside <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/alberto-contador\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Alberto Contador<\/a> during much of the \u201cPistolero\u2019s\u201d professional career.<\/p>\n<p>The younger Noval hails from Spain\u2019s Asturias region and has already racked up 40 junior victories across stages, GC, and one-day races during the past two seasons.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/netcompany-ineos\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Netcompany-Ineos<\/a> saw enough to sign him for 2027 and 2028, putting him on the fast-track to jump directly from the junior ranks to the WorldTour.<\/p>\n<p>Is he Spain\u2019s next big thing?
