A high-end Noosa holiday park has copped an environmental enforcement order after a pipe leaked sewage and forced the closure of a walking trail. <\/p>\n

Documents published by the state government show the environmental enforcement order was issued to Elanda Pty Ltd, the company behind Habitat Noosa Everglades Ecocamp, regarding a sewage leak near a walking trail. <\/p>\n

The leak was first identified by a staff member on August 11 after a community reporter for Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services noticed a strong odour on the Cooloola Walking Track.<\/p>\n

\u201cA broken sewage pipe was seen adjacent to the Cooloola Walking Track and the mapped waterway,\u201d the order stated. <\/p>\n

\u201cPohlner Plumbing stated the cause of the leak was due to a root ball crack in the pipe from trees growing on top of the sewerage pipes.\u201d<\/p>\n

The track was shut to the public due to \u201cpooling\u201d of sewage, the order stated. <\/p>\n

\u201cDark liquid with a strong effluent odour was moving slowly towards the Elanda Point Campground Firebreak track from the area of the sewerage pipe leak and there was pooling of dark liquid with an effluent odour adjacent to a water channel,\u201d the order stated. <\/p>\n

Ultimately, the department ordered the holiday park to restore the section of the track impacted by the leak and remove any contaminated matter, submitting photo evidence when it was completed. <\/p>\n

A Habitat Noosa spokeswoman said the orders from the department had been complied with. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe acted immediately upon becoming aware of the leak. The affected area has since been cleaned and restored, all requirements of the department\u2019s order have been met, and a regular inspection process is in place,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

A former builder sold the award-winning Queensland eco-camp for an estimated $50m in May<\/a> after transforming a basic campground into a globally recognised tourism destination.<\/p>\n

At the time, G\u2019Day Group founder and chief executive officer Grant Wilckens said the acquisition strengthened its national footprint and position in premium regional tourism<\/p>\n

\u201cAn exceptional asset, Habitat Noosa hosts more than 65,000 yearly visitors, making it a high-demand destination with strong domestic and international market appeal and clear potential for future, long-term growth,\u201d Mr Wilckens said.<\/p>\n
