Chris Fagan has failed to guarantee he will continue coaching in 2027 as rumours continue swirl about the Lions coach.<\/p>\n

The popular mentor, who has been at the Lions for 10 seasons, heads into Saturday\u2019s Grand Final against Fremantle with his future yet to be locked in. <\/p>\n

Chasing a third consecutive premiership, Fagan said during Friday\u2019s official press conference he will sit down to discuss his future with officials after the season finishes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s fair enough to speculate about it, but I honestly don\u2019t know right at this point in time whether I\u2019ll keep going or not, but it was like that last year and the year before. So, just got to work out the right time to go,\u201d Fagan said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, there\u2019ll be a few more discussions about that, but it\u2019s not the big issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fagan is contracted through to the end of the 2027 season, however, after leading the club to four grand finals, the ball is in Fagan\u2019s court. <\/p>\n

Lions captain Harris Andrews told reporters during the press conference he hopes his mentor will remain in the job.<\/p>\n

Sitting alongside Andrews, Fagan beamed with a bright smile when Andrews was asked about his coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cDefinitely hoping that he continues on,\u201d Andrews said. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t really think about that sort of stuff. We\u2019re too focused on the moment and yeah, whatever happens. <\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day, he\u2019s been a great coach. And really excited to hopefully continue on with him.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes after footy icon Leigh Matthews on Monday night stirred rumours Fagan may elect to step away after such a period of success. <\/p>\n

Matthews, who is one of Fagan\u2019s closest mentors, said he would understand it if Fagan made the tough decision. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t worry about his contract,\u201d Matthews said on Fox Footy\u2019s On The Couch. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s irellevant to him. At the end of the day he says, \u2018Do I want to keep coaching\u2019. <\/p>\n

\u201cBecause coaching is a lifestyle. It\u2019s a lifestyle that you have to be prepared to live. At some time he might think, well I don\u2019t want to do that anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been the situation I would have thought the last few years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lions legend Jonathan Brown also said he had also heard \u201cspeculation\u201d about Fagan\u2019s future and said he would understand it if Saturday\u2019s blockbuster was Fagan\u2019s final game in charge. <\/p>\n

The game could also be Lachie Neale\u2019s final in Lions colours with the former captain widely tipped to join Collingwood next year. <\/p>\n
