Former two-division world champion Panya Pradabsri<\/a>, also known as Petchmanee CP Freshmart has retired at the age of 34.<\/p>\n

Pradabsri won WBC world titles at strawweight and junior flyweight during a productive career.<\/p>\n

The Thai boxer lost his WBC 108-pound title by fifth-round stoppage to Carlos Canizales in Venezuela on August 1<\/a>. A rubber match had been discussed, potentially at the WBC convention, in December. However, Pradabsri ultimately decided to walk away.”Panya is a fighter who will be remembered for his bravery and class,” WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told The Ring<\/a>. “A true warrior inside the ring and a noble, kind human, with a beautiful family.<\/p>\n

“The pandemic got in the way of his career but at the end he emerged as a solid world champion.<\/p>\n

“He lost his title after he had knocked down the local hero in Venezuela and was on way to defeating his opponent but was caught with a body shot which would knockout anyone.”<\/p>\n

Pradabsri turned professional in January 2014 in his homeland. He won his first 18 contests, almost exclusively at home, with two fights taking place in nearby Laos.<\/p>\n

He lost for the first time when beaten by the more experienced former WBC 105-pound champion Chaozhong Xiong via 12-round majority decision in Chinese city Datong in October 2017.<\/p>\n

Unperturbed by that setback, he reeled off 16 wins over the next three years to earn a shot at unbeaten compatriot Wanheng Menayothin’s WBC 105-pound crown and upset his long-reigning countryman to win a 12-round decision – inflicting a first loss in 55 fights.<\/p>\n

With a lack of international options due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, he pitched 12-round decision wins over Danai Ngiabphukhiaw and Menayothin during their rematch. <\/p>\n

He twice beat Norihito Tanaka – first on points, then an eighth-round stoppage – before heading to Japan, where Yudai Shigeoka<\/a> was a comfortable winner at his expense in October 2023.
After three victories on his latest comeback trail, Pradabsri edged beyond Canizales<\/a> via 12-round majority decision to win the vacant WBC junior flyweight title in December<\/a>. Despite dropping the hometown hero a round earlier, he would later succumb to a stoppage defeat himself earlier this month, thus departing the sport with a 44-3 (27 KOs) record.<\/p>\n
