Dockers answer back with goal from Jye Amiss

This is some contest right now. Both teams look dangerous, and the Dockers have put it together, going direct and long to Jye Amiss in the left pocket.

He marks, and he kicks it!

Take a bow, Conor McKenna!

This game is heating up!

The Lions go forward, and the ball bounces around the right forward pocket.

It falls to Conor McKenna – and the Irishman does it again, bisecting a scrum of players to dribble it home from a narrow angle. Great goal!

Voss takes a boss mark for Freo

That was a decent start for the Dockers to the second quarter.

They took possession and went long, next to the square.

A big contest, and Patrick Voss flew and clunked a great mark!

Roar from the fans, and he kicks the goal. The Dockers lead by five!

Dayne Zorko is in a bit of strife

Brisbane’s Dayne Zorko was looking a little proppy at quarter time. Apparently he has a corky and is strapped up.

If he has problems, so do Brisbane.

Freo answer with stoppage goal from Reid

Stoppages are proving crucial at the moment.

This time it’s Freo – Luke Jackson takes the tap, and Murphy Reid gets out and snaps the Dockers’ third of the game.

We’re back to a point!

Lions strike again through Kai Lohmann

That was a great bit of play from Brisbane!

The ball went forward, Dayne Zorko punched it like a heavyweight champion, the ball went to a contest and Logan Morris got his fist on it for a lovely handball.

It went clear to Kai Lohmann, and the Brisbane dynamo ran in and slotted it from 30.

Big moment there! Lions lead by seven.

Lions kick one through Oscar Allen

Fremantle missed a trick there – a forward 50 stoppage for Brisbane saw the ball handballed over the top, Hayden Young had the chance to clean up but he missed Oscar Allen, and the former Eagle gathered, steadied and kicked it!

A quick behind afterwards saw the Lions take the lead by the minimum.

Stats are close

So far, Fremantle has 11 inside 50s to 10 for Brisbane, while the Lions are winning the clearances 8-5.

The centre clearances, which we thought might be crucial, are 2 apiece.

Dudley makes amends – Fremantle hits the front!

It’s turning a bit chaotic at the MCG, but finally the Dockers make it count.

Young goes down the left wing and kicks to 50. It gets centred and Isaiah Dudley is there to gather- this time he kicks it!

A big roar from the Freo contingent, and the Dockers are ahead at the start of time-on!

Small margins at the MCG

That was very dangerous for the Brisbane there.

Hayden Young sent the Dockers inside 50, and it led to a scramble, eventually it fell to Shai Bolton, but his sky-high snap was punched through (just) on the line.

And then the Dockers had another chance, with Isaiah Dudley missing a solid chance. Is it pressure, or nerves, or a slippery ball? Who knows, but both sides need to find their kicking boots.

Scores are level again.

Lions having repeat entries but can’t take advantage yet

Brisbane are levelling up the inside 50s after Freo had the advantage early.

Conor McKenna had a kick on the run, but missed to the left. Then another forward entry led to a rushed behind.

The Lions lead by two, 1.3 (9) to 1.1 (7).

Lachie Neale is on the ground

The man of the week, Lachie Neale, started on the bench, and he has been waiting the best part of half a quarter to come on.

When he did, there was a serious noise – support from Lions fans matched or surpassed by a decent chorus of boos.

Sat 26 Sep 2026 at 2:42pmSat 26 Sep 2026 at 2:42pm

Chance missed by Brisbane’s Rayner

It’s reasonably free-flowing, despite huge physicality.

The Lions have broken through the middle there, and Charlie Cameron went wide before chipping perfectly for Cam Rayner on the right side of 50.

He lines up, but the ball sways away at the last minute.

Scores are level.

Josh Treacy answers for the Dockers

It’s over to Fremantle, and they prove they’re up to it.

A ball to the left side of 50, and Josh Treacy clunks a mark in the wet!

He goes back … and drills it!

That’s an important reply for the Dockers.

Sat 26 Sep 2026 at 2:35pmSat 26 Sep 2026 at 2:35pm

Charlie Cameron gets the first goal!

Freo had their chance – a surge forward saw Patrick Voss’s kick from the pocket skew wide.

Then the Lions made them pay, going direct to the hotspot, where the ball came off hands and Charlie Cameron ran clear to snap one round his body.

The Lions lead by a goal early!

Sat 26 Sep 2026 at 2:33pmSat 26 Sep 2026 at 2:33pm

Lions get the opening rushed behind

Brisbane has started with some serious pressure, and there has been little time for anyone with the ball so far.

A kick to the right pocket for the Lions led to a kick to the back stick, so to speak, and a rushed behind.

Some readers are going the extra kilometre (or more) for this grand final

Am currently in training for a triathlon so I’m spending the next four quarters on a bike trainer. For every Freo goal I’ll go hard until the ball up- let’s hope I’m super fit for this!
