Our 22-year-old sprinter reached 35 victories in the Soudal Quick-Step jersey after taking the penultimate stage of the CRO Race.<\/p>\n
Paul Magnier powered to a well-deserved success – his first of the week in Croatia – at the end of the 164.5km stage five, capitalizing on his teammates\u2019 excellent work Saturday afternoon. It was Paul\u2019s 11th win of the season and his fifth at this race, after the poker of victories he scored one year ago.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m very happy to be on the top spot of the podium again!<\/p>\n
\u201cThe team did an amazing job today! Their lead-out was spectacular, and all I had to do was open my sprint at the right moment and keep it all the way to the line\u201d, Paul said immediately after the finish in Sveta Nedelja.<\/p>\n
The day had one major difficulty, the Plesivica climb, which came inside 20 kilometers to go and where some riders attacked hoping to open a gap. Soudal Quick-Step reacted immediately, shutting down those moves, as well as those that came on the descent, and at the same time, keeping Magnier protected and in a good position. Going under the flamme rouge, the Frenchman had three teammates, and their lead-out was flawless; Paul launched his effort with 250 meters to go and put several bike lengths into the other sprinters on his way to Soudal Quick-Step\u2019s 28th win of the year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI knew the parcours from last year and I was aware it would be hard, because some riders were keen on attacking on the climb, but we controlled and brought back all those moves, managing to keep things together for the finale. In the sprint, I started early, but I was confident I could pull it off. Sunday is another opportunity and we are motivated to fight again for the victory\u201d, added Paul, who is back in contention for the points jersey.<\/p>\n
