A male police officer has been injured after allegedly being stabbed in the neck while on duty in Brisbane’s east, according to the police union.<\/p>\n

Police said officers were called to a reported disturbance at a property on Bogong Street in Hemmant just after five on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

Officers spoke with two men at the property before a male constable was injured.<\/p>\n

The officer was taken to hospital and was in a stable condition.<\/p>\n

QPU president Shane Prior said police officers in Queensland are facing an “increasingly dangerous” environment.<\/p>\n

Police Union President Shane Prior said the officer had been stabbed in the neck and upper torso area.<\/p>\n

“This officer is a hero. Whilst holding onto his neck to stop the bleeding, he managed to chase after the offender, deploy a taser \u2014 but had to stop because he was getting weary from blood loss,” he said.<\/p>\n

“This officer graduated from the academy in July. Only 10 weeks service \u2014 two weeks out of his mentor period. He’s a man in his 40s, married, two young children. Prior to this job, he worked for the Red Cross.<\/p>\n

“We need to make sure police are equipped with the appropriate tactical first aid kits and tourniquets and equipment that may very well save their life, like a vest [would] in other situations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We need to make sure that our police in this state are given the right tools to deal with a job that is becoming increasingly dangerous.”<\/p>\n

One of the men fled the scene on a bicycle before abandoning it and continuing on foot.<\/p>\n
