Two people have died and another is fighting for life after a horror crash in Victoria’s north-west last night.<\/p>\n
Victoria Police said a vehicle was travelling along the Western Highway near Mount Drummond Road at Ledcourt around 6:45pm when two cars collided.<\/p>\n
“The car has collided into the side of a truck and then collided with a third vehicle, being another car,” detective acting sergeant Leigh Miller from the Major Collision Unit said.<\/p>\n
“Sadly two people in the third vehicle are both deceased.”<\/p>\n
The victims are yet to be formally identified.<\/p>\n
He said four people were in the other car, including a young girl who was critically injured.<\/p>\n
The other three were treated for non-life threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
The driver of the truck was unhurt and stopped at the scene.<\/p>\n
Roads around the area have reopened after remaining closed in both directions overnight while detectives investigated the cause of the crash.<\/p>\n
“At this stage we don’t know why the collision has occurred but what we will be investigating is whether fatigue or distraction, [or] whether speed is involved,” detective acting sergeant Miller said.<\/p>\n
“It’s the holiday period. It was getting late in the afternoon, traffic was really busy, people were heading home.<\/p>\n
“We want to make sure that everyone gets home safely \u2026 Two people aren’t going home and it’s a sad and tragic event.”<\/p>\n
