Mivi, the Hyderabad-based audio brand best known for earphones and speakers, has launched its first smartphone, the Mivi One 5G, and it will go on sale in India through Flipkart on October 8. The phone lists at INR 14,999 for 4GB\/128GB, INR 15,999 for 6GB\/128GB and INR 16,999 for 8GB\/128GB, according to GSMArena<\/a>, although Flipkart\u2019s Big Billion Days pricing brings the base model down to an effective INR 11,999 once sale discounts and bank offers are applied. On paper it is a sensible first phone, but the more interesting story is timing, because Mivi is walking into the budget segment at the exact moment larger brands are walking out of it, and the way it made the numbers work says a lot about what a cheap phone looks like in 2026.<\/p>\n

Mivi One 5G Specs and Price<\/p>\n

The Mivi One 5G runs on Qualcomm\u2019s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 and pairs it with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, which can be expanded through a microSD slot. The front is a 6.75-inch HD+ LCD running at 90Hz, while the back carries a 50MP main camera with an auxiliary lens, and there is an 8MP camera for selfies. A 6,000mAh battery charges at 18W, the body is rated IP64, and Mivi has kept both a 3.5mm headphone jack and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. That alone is not unusual in the budget tier, but what stands out is how far below the chip\u2019s own ceiling Mivi has built the phone.<\/p>\n

Each of those downgrades saves money, and the savings concentrate on exactly the parts that have become expensive, since slower LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage are the cheapest memory a 5G phone can reasonably ship with. Why INR 14,999 Still Looks Normal in 2026<\/p>\n

The comparison with 2025 is not entirely fair, because the price of the memory inside every phone has exploded since then. Omdia expects memory costs for phones priced under $100 to rise 400% in the third quarter of 2026, lifting the memory bill for the most common configuration to $70 from $14 a year earlier, the South China Morning Post reported<\/a>. The global RAM shortage driven by AI demand<\/a> has pushed budget prices up across India, and Xiaomi\u2019s own Redmi 15C 5G, which launched at INR 12,499 in December 2025, is now listed at INR 17,499 on Smartprix\u2019s price tracker. This is also the year a far better-known brand decided the maths did not work. In June, Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis said the company would not launch a new CMF phone in 2026 because it \u201ccan\u2019t build a phone that feels like a genuine step forward\u201d at a price that suits the brand, Android Central reported<\/a>. Nothing refused to ship a phone that would feel like a step backwards, whereas Mivi, which has no previous phone to be compared against, can ship a 2023 chip at its lowest configuration without anyone calling it a downgrade. That is the real advantage of being a newcomer in a shrinking market, and it arrives as analysts expect the smartphone market to shrink sharply this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Read plainly, that sets the fully Mivi-engineered phone as a future goal, which means buyers should treat the One 5G as a manufactured-in-India phone rather than a phone Mivi designed from the ground up. That is not a criticism of the product itself, but it matters for anyone buying it partly on the strength of the label.<\/p>\n

Who Should Consider the Mivi One 5G<\/p>\n

For a first attempt, Mivi has made some choices that bigger brands keep dropping, including clean Android with two promised OS upgrades, a headphone jack, IP64 protection and a large battery, so a buyer who mostly calls, messages, streams and pays through UPI could be well served.
