{"id":908903,"date":"2026-09-28T19:24:28","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T19:24:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/908903\/"},"modified":"2026-09-28T19:24:28","modified_gmt":"2026-09-28T19:24:28","slug":"nfl-asks-dhs-to-take-down-post-likening-violent-tackles-to-treatment-of-immigrants-nfl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/908903\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL asks DHS to take down post likening violent tackles to treatment of immigrants | NFL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/nfl\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NFL<\/a> has asked the US Department of Homeland Security to take down a video likening former Eagles star Brian Dawkins\u2019s most violent hits to a clampdown on immigrants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DdzuJIxpz3_\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The video<\/a> posted to social media on Sunday shows Dawkins\u2019 pregame walkout as he chants \u201cThe time has come,\u201d followed by a series of violent hits from his playing career. The DHS post includes the caption \u201cOur time has come\u201d in response to a social media account claiming a \u201chuge migrant caravan\u201d is approaching the United States\u2019 southern border.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">\u201cThe league has requested the DHS take down the video,\u201d NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Monday. In a text, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/50053653\/nfl-asks-dhs-take-brian-dawkins-social-media-video\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dawkins told ESPN<\/a> he had not given permission for his image to be used by the DHS. \u201cI have very respectfully not given permission,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Dawkins was a nine-time Pro Bowler known for his physical play during 16 NFL seasons with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/philadelphia-eagles\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> and Denver Broncos before retiring in 2011. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">The DHS has used other US sports in its social media posts. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2025\/aug\/07\/dhs-references-mexican-indycar-driver-to-promote-speedway-slammer-detention-center\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">In 2025<\/a>, IndyCar driver Pato O\u2019Ward and officials from the racing series were shocked by a DHS post that touted plans for an immigration detention center in Indiana dubbed \u201cSpeedway Slammer\u201d. It included a car with the same number as that of O\u2019Ward, then the only Mexican driver in the series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">\u201cIt caught a lot of people off guard. Definitely caught me off guard,\u201d O\u2019Ward said at the time. \u201cI was just a little bit shocked at the coincidences of that and, you know, of what it means &#8230; I don\u2019t think it made a lot of people proud, to say the least.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\"><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DHSgov\/status\/1952857892383859197\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow\">The post<\/a> included an AI-generated image of a IndyCar-style vehicle with O\u2019Ward\u2019s No 5 that has \u201cICE\u201d stamped on it.
