IT didn\u2019t take long for George Miedecke to be asked if he could extend his Touring Car Masters return beyond a one-off.<\/p>\n

Miedecke hopped aboard Whiteline Racing\u2019s #85 Camaro last month at Sydney Motorsport Park as part of the revived Apex Steel Muscle Car Masters event, and the reunion proved a smash hit.<\/p>\n

Miedecke qualified on pole position, won the opening two races, and took the overall round honours.<\/p>\n

He hadn\u2019t even returned to the paddock following the chequered flag waving in the final race before being persuaded to continue on in the car for a little longer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was on the in-lap after Race 3 and Bobby (Middleton) was already on the radio trying to get me back for Bathurst, and he got me at the right time,\u201d Miedecke told V8 Sleuth.<\/p>\n

So indeed, he will tackle the Mountain next week for the latest stop on the TCM calendar.<\/p>\n

\u201cSydney was always going to be a one-off, but we just had such a great time and so much fun and a fantastic result that when the opportunity came up to go to Bathurst, it was very difficult to say no,\u201d said Miedecke.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously this year is a big event at Bathurst, 20 years since Peter (Brock)\u2019s passing, and Dad and Pete were teammates. It\u2019s a great reason to be there as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhiteline have made such great progress with that platform, I can\u2019t believe they\u2019re still improving those cars after all these years. I have got to say, it was a pleasure to drive at Sydney, and I think the platform has got a lot of potential for when we go to Bathurst.\u201d<\/p>\n

George\u2019s father Andrew Miedecke paired up with Brock for the 1991 Bathurst 1000, in which the latter delivered an unforgettable white-knuckle lap in the Top 10 Shootout.<\/p>\n

The very car they shared is featured in the newest edition of the V8 Sleuth Magazine and is due to appear at Mount Panorama as part of the Brocky festivities.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember just being part of that whole Bathurst cr\u00e8che back in the day, all of the kids running around and Bev (Brock) used to look after us. Really for me, I was born in \u201986 and Dad and Pete drove together in 1991, so I was pretty young,\u201d George reflected.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut just the vibe of the paddock back then was something pretty special.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Sierra will be on display, the \u201989 pole-sitting car will be there, and I believe Jack (Perkins) is just finishing up the \u201991 Commodore which hopefully will be there too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miedecke, who is a regular frontrunner in GT4 Australia, noted how a more relaxed approach is helping him perform better behind the wheel nowadays.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really feel like I\u2019m in a good place at the moment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think earlier in my career when I was in Super2, I was too worried about what everyone else thought and now I\u2019m just driving for the joy of it, and I feel like I\u2019m driving really well \u2013 better than I have in a long time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went to Sydney with the intent of winning. Did I expect to win? No. Was I pleased? Yes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just having a lot of fun and I don\u2019t go in with any expectations other than to expect myself to do a good job and then whatever the result is, that\u2019s what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miedecke raced in the full 2012 and 2013 seasons of the Dunlop Series, recording a best race finish of second place on three occasions.<\/p>\n
