of dolphins spotted swimming in Sydney Harbour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group of early rising kayakers were given a welcome shock as they took to Sydney\u2019s Harbour this morning, when they were greeted by more than just a sunrise.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Griffiths, owner of Cockatoo Tours, was escorting a group on a sunrise paddle on Monday morning in the waters off Birchgrove in hope of a picturesque display in the sky.<\/p>\n<p>However, what actually welcomed the kayakers was far more unexpected \u2013 more than making up for an underwhelming sunrise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI looked up and all of a sudden saw some fins coming up from the water and there was a pod of dolphins, probably around 10 of them,\u201d Mr Griffiths said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been running these tours for around a year now and have been paddling in the area for around five years and have never seen so many dolphins out this far before,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The quick-thinking tour guide immediately pulled out his phone and captured the magical moment, as the dolphins danced through the water ahead of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo have a pod like that this far up is apparently extremely rare, so it was very special \u2013 and great for the tourists,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a pretty non-eventful sunrise, there was a lot of cloud cover and didn\u2019t have many colours at all, but the dolphins really made up for that, it was really quite special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The dolphins were spotted swimming up the Parramatta River, close to Cockatoo Island and west of Sydney Harbour
