A boat has become partly submerged in the Marlborough Sounds prompting an oil spill response from the harbourmaster.<\/p>\n
The 56-foot boat, named the Padrone, sunk near Waitaria Bay jetty in Kenepuru Sound on Tuesday, carrying 2000 litres of diesel and 60 litres of engine oil.<\/p>\n
Six trained responders had been dispatched from Havelock about lunchtime with oil spill management gear aboard the harbourmaster boat Resolution.<\/p>\n
On-scene commander Pete Hamill said they had only seen “minimal signs” of fuel on the water surface but they would continue to monitor the boat.<\/p>\n
The owner of the boat said they planned to refloat the boat on Wednesday, a statement from the Marlborough District Council said.<\/p>\n
At this stage, the cause of the sinking was unknown.<\/p>\n
