\"\"<\/a>Naughty Dog<\/p>\n

Game developer Naughty Dog has confirmed that work has started on new \u201cThe Last of Us\u201d projects at the studio, though stopped short of calling either a direct sequel (ie. \u201cThe Last of Us Part III\u201d).<\/p>\n

In a charity stream on Monday marking the anniversary of the original 2013 game, studio head Neil Druckmann offered updates on where various projects stand at his studio.<\/p>\n

At the moment, much of the studio is working on \u201cIntergalactic: The Heretic Prophet,\u201d and Druckmann confirms it will \u2018fully reveal\u2019 the title next year:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe team is heads down on what is shaping up to be Naughty Dog\u2019s most ambitious game yet. There\u2019s an electricity around the studio right now as all the pieces come together, and we\u2019re stoked to finally unveil Intergalactic in all its glory. But\u2026we need to cook for just a little bit longer.<\/p>\n

So we want to set expectations: we\u2019re going to be quiet for the rest of this year. In 2027, that changes. We\u2019ll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan\u2019s wild sci-fi adventure. We know it\u2019s been a long time since we\u2019ve had much to share with you. We don\u2019t take your continued support for granted. We\u2019re working incredibly hard to make something worthy of your patience.\u201d<\/p>\n

When the talk turned towards \u201cThe Last of Us,\u201d Ducksman surprised by using phrasing that includes the words \u2018projects\u2019 and \u2018both\u2019, essentially confirming two titles on the way:<\/p>\n

\u201cSince [feature documentary] Grounded II, we\u2019ve talked about the possibility of telling more stories in the world of The Last of Us. We have a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages \u2013 so we can\u2019t say much about them at this point. I will tell you that both projects will expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II. <\/p>\n

The world of The Last of Us means a great deal to us, and we wouldn\u2019t return to it unless we had something meaningful to say. We believe these stories are worth telling.\u201d<\/p>\n

We do know Naughty Dog spent years working on a \u201cThe Last of Us\u201d multiplayer live service title dubbed \u2018Factions,\u2019 which Sony scrapped as it pivoted away from its live service push, and the obvious question arises as to whether the levels and assets created for that will be used in one of these titles.<\/p>\n

We won\u2019t know that for a while.
