Red-hot Lucas Herbert locked in for Australian PGA and Open<\/a><\/p>\nThe 35-year-old Mexican has established himself as one of the leading players from Latin America in the past decade, winning on the PGA Tour\u00a0before becoming a regular contender on LIV Golf.<\/p>\n
Ortiz broke through for his first PGA Tour victory at the 2020 Houston Open, becoming the first Mexican player in 42 years to win on the world\u2019s No.1 tour. He went on to record 12 PGA Tour top-10 finishes.<\/p>\n
Since joining LIV Golf in 2022, Ortiz has recorded 15 top-10 finishes across his four seasons and finishing inside the league\u2019s top 15 in each of his first four full seasons.<\/p>\n
He claimed his first LIV Golf individual title at LIV Golf Houston in 2024, shooting 15-under-par to defeat Adrian Meronk by one stroke.<\/p>\n
Ortiz then produced the best major championship result of his career in 2025, finishing tied for fourth at the US Open at Oakmont \u2013 the best-ever US Open finish by a Mexican player. He also won the International Series Macau later that year.<\/p>\n
That form has continued into 2026, with Ortiz recording top-10 finishes at LIV Golf Hong Kong and LIV Golf South Africa, including a sixth-place finish in Hong Kong and eighth in South Africa.<\/p>\n
PGA of Australia chief executive Gavin Kirkman said Ortiz\u2019s international credentials would be a major attraction when the Australian PGA Championship returns to Sydney.<\/p>\n
\u201cCarlos is a proven winner at the highest level and we\u2019re delighted to have him confirmed for the BMW Australian PGA Championship,\u201d Kirkman said. \u201cHe\u2019s won on the PGA Tour, he\u2019s won on LIV Golf and he\u2019s consistently competed at the top end of some of the biggest tournaments in world golf.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis fourth-place finish at the US Open last year was a terrific performance and his results on LIV Golf this year show that he\u2019s continuing to play some outstanding golf.<\/p>\n

Ortiz said he was looking forward to returning to Australia and taking on The Lakes.<\/p>\n
