If there’s one thing Rockstar wants to do with GTA 6, it’s meet the sky-high expectations players have set. As we approach the game’s November 19 release date, pressure is high for both players, who want GTA 6 to meet their expectations, and the studio, whose developers have worked tirelessly over the last decade, as veteran Rockstar dev Aaron Garbut explains.

Speaking to Game Informer, the Rockstar North co-head has expanded on how Rockstar is trying to “overdeliver” with GTA 6, saying, “As the pressure for us on this project is huge, we dealt with that by doing our best to overdeliver.”

He mentions that normally they would ” compromise scale for detail or detail for interaction”, but with GTA 6, they’re taking a complete 180 approach.

With this project we went the other way – everything is dialed up – detail, scope, breadth, scale, interaction and density. I don’t think we have ever created anything close to this before.

Previously, Rockstar North’s other co-head, Rob Nelson, shared similar insight into how the studio is handling the unprecedented pressure to surpass GTA 5 with GTA 6. It’s arguably the biggest entertainment release of the decade, so Rockstar is going all out with their upcoming game to meet as many player expectations as possible.

There’s a lot of pressure to overdeliver both internally and externally, but there’s a chance Rockstar meets them all. After all, GTA 6’s Leonida map is the biggest map Rockstar has ever created, and it’s twice the size of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

GTA 6 offers a huge range of activities, including some never seen in a game before. Furthermore, GTA 6 includes over 170 animal species, along with countless other details to discover. However, even with Rockstar’s efforts to meet the sky-high expectations, GTA 6 could miss this year’s GOTY cutoff at The Game Awards 2026.

With that said, do you think Rockstar will meet all player expectations with GTA 6? Let us know in the comments section below.
