Not only do strong legs help us move well and reduce our risk of falls, but a growing body of evidence also suggests there&#8217;s an association between lower-body strength and cognitive function.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"9\" class=\"css-1tfgmyw emevuu60\">For example, one widely cited <a data-start=\"601\" data-end=\"659\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC6239135\/\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC6239135\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"study\" data-node-id=\"9.1\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a> found that older adults with greater leg strength had 34% lower odds of low cognitive function than those with weaker legs. Meanwhile, a 10-year <a data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"855\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/26551663\/\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/26551663\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"study\" data-node-id=\"9.3\" class=\"body-link css-1e57p3n emevuu60\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a> of more than 300 twin sisters reported &#8216;a striking protective relationship&#8217; between leg power and cognition. For extra balance, you can keep your toes lightly touching the floor, as Suzi does.Lower the dumbbell towards the floor, then reverse the movement to return to standing.Remember: hold the dumbbell in the opposite hand to your planted leg.2.
