{"id":911621,"date":"2026-10-01T00:38:09","date_gmt":"2026-10-01T00:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/911621\/"},"modified":"2026-10-01T00:38:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-01T00:38:09","slug":"gen-z-and-millennials-turn-to-gambling-and-ai-to-tackle-debt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/911621\/","title":{"rendered":"Gen Z and millennials turn to gambling and AI to tackle debt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Desperate Gen Zers and millennials are turning to online gambling and AI to claw their way out of crushing debt \u2014 in part because of the \u201capproachability\u201d and \u201cjudgement-free advice\u201d from computers, according to a new survey.<\/p>\n<p>Sports betting, prediction markets like <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/24\/business\/new-york-sues-polymarket-accuses-company-of-running-illegal-gambling-operation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Polymarket <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/25\/business\/kalshi-dealt-major-blow-as-appeals-court-rules-states-can-regulate-prediction-markets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Kalshi<\/a>, fantasy sports, day trading and even old fashioned casino gambling aren\u2019t just hobbies \u2014 or addictions \u2014 anymore; they\u2019re financial survival strategies for cash-strapped adults, according to a new poll from National Debt Relief and Wakefield Research <\/p>\n<p>69% of millennials and 64% of Gen Z report using AI for money advice during financial struggles.  Prostock-studio \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>A whopping 65% of Gen Z and 49% of millennials who regularly gamble say they have done so to try to eliminate a chunk of their debt, compared to 39% of Gen X and 19% of boomers.<\/p>\n<p>65% percent of millennials and 53% of Gen Z reported they felt more comfortable talking about their financial woes with AI.  Daniel \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>And when it comes to guidance, AI has become a personal financial guru, according to the survey of 2,000 US adults above the age of 18. <\/p>\n<p>An eye-opening 69% of millennials and 64% of Gen Z report using AI for money advice during financial struggles, compared with 45% of Gen X and just 23% of boomers.<\/p>\n<p>The survey found \u201cjudement-free advice\u201d and \u201cAI\u2019s approachability\u201d was a major draw for using AI to manage their money matters. <\/p>\n<p>Sixty-five percent of millennials and 53% of Gen Z reported they felt more comfortable talking about their financial woes with computers rather than with family and friends, according to the poll.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe data shows younger Americans are willing to seek help with their finances, but where they turn for that help is changing,\u201d said Cathleen Bell, vice president of customer research &amp; insights at National Debt Relief, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/nearly-9-in-10-millennials-and-almost-8-in-10-gen-z-carry-debt-reshaping-their-approach-to-money-love-and-the-future-302893333.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">press statement<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More than a third of millennials (38%) and over a quarter of Gen Zers (27%) burdened by unsecured debt owe an eye-popping $7,500 or more, research shows.
