However, the expert has argued that their ultimatum could be seen as a way of “blackmailing” King Charles III after he clarified the couple’s roles as “private citizens”.<\/p>\n
“The implications of this are massive because if they get it, what that then means is Harry and Meghan can come and go, and they’ll still be getting police protection, and also they can say that they want it in America,” he said.<\/p>\n
“So those hard-pressed taxpayers in the US might find that they’re having to pay for security too. So it could ease any money worries that they have. Harry and Meghan would be absolutely thrilled. They’d have these huge costs paid for by someone else.”<\/p>\n
Questions surrounding Harry and Meghan’s security arrangements are in limbo,<\/a> with the couple still waiting on the Royal and VIP Executive Committee’s (RAVEC) decision regarding their access to taxpayer-funded protection.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Duke and Duchess of Sussex lost their automatic police protection in 2020 when they stepped away from their duties as working royals and moved to the United States.\u00a0<\/p>\n However, since moving back to Britain at the end of August, the Sussexes have been granted a review of their security by RAVEC, with the results yet to be revealed.\u00a0<\/p>\n Despite the ongoing stalemate, the family have seemingly faced a number of security issues since basing themselves in the UK.\u00a0<\/p>\n The couple announced on September 14 that they had decided to move their children, Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, to another school<\/a> over security concerns posed by traffic in the area.\u00a0<\/p>\n It’s understood the security team had only tested the route from the Sussexes’ home to the school during the summer break and were shocked when a 35-minute journey turned into an hour-long slog.\u00a0<\/p>\n Furthermore, it has been reported that Meghan’s personal phone number was leaked after she joined a school parents’ group chat<\/a> the day before Archie and Lilibet were due to start at their new school.\u00a0<\/p>\n Screenshots of a message allegedly sent by the Duchess to the WhatsApp conversation made the rounds, showing the mum-of-two being added to the chat and welcomed by the group’s admin.<\/p>\n Most recently, police this week investigated a security scare at Archie and Lilibet’s new school<\/a> after two mystery men were spotted “surveilling” the grounds.<\/p>\n The men were seen carrying backpacks near the premises and are believed to have been international paparazzi photographers.\u00a0<\/p>\n It is understood that the Sussexes have referred the incident to RAVEC as part of their
