The best news for Labor is their new leader is much less unpopular than the old one and has made up some ground against the opposition leader on who would make a better premier. <\/p>\n
But at 24 per cent the ALP\u2019s primary vote is still far too low for it to have any chance of victory.<\/p>\n
The upside for the Liberal Party is that it and its leader are more popular than their opponents.<\/p>\n
It also leads Labor on who voters trust to manage every issue they care about in a state which is extremely pessimistic about its future.<\/p>\n
The problem for the Coalition, despite the growing expectation it is going to win, is that less than 60 days out from polling day, its primary vote is still only 29 per cent and while on paper this might translate to a two-party-preferred landslide of 53-47, the reality is no one can be quite sure how the cards will fall. <\/p>\n
In other words, based on this poll, the only thing we can say with certainty is Ben Carroll is on track to lose \u2013 badly \u2013 and while the chances are that Jess Wilson will replace him with a majority in her own right, it\u2019s entirely possible that she will need the support of One Nation to form a government.<\/p>\n
Carroll is already pushing this threat hard, not just because he doesn\u2019t have much else to talk about but because he knows it speaks to the fears of a surprisingly large chunk of Liberals \u2013 more than a third of whom say they would preference Labor ahead of the Hansonites. <\/p>\n
Given Labor\u2019s enormous majority it wouldn\u2019t need that argument to bite with that many voters for it to stumble back into government, which is why Team Wilson needs to find a way to get her up into 30s. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Neither Team Carroll nor Team Wilson will be ecstatic about this poll.
