Late-night hosts mocked Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s rebranding of AI as \u201csuper intelligence\u201d and an embarrassing congressional hearing for Senate Republicans.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> used his Wednesday show, live from Brooklyn, to address news of a meeting<\/a> between Donald Trump and the CEOs of major AI companies, including Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, to broker a deal on so-called \u201csuper intelligence\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of them have actually asked the government, please, help regulate us, put up guardrails so we don\u2019t end up exterminating human life,\u201d the host explained. \u201cBut Trump doesn\u2019t want that. He wants the AI companies to self-police.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike remember how in the Terminator movies, the Terminators stopped when they asked him politely to stop terminating? That\u2019s what he wants,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is like asking your kids to self-police their Halloween candy. It doesn\u2019t work.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd nobody is better at managing their impulse control than these tech billionaires,\u201d he continued. \u201cYou leave them alone for one weekend, they come back with the ugliest truck you\u2019ve ever seen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis tells you all you need to know,\u201d he added before pulling up a photo of Trump\u2019s \u201cWhite House Accord on Super Intelligence\u201d, signed by, as written, the \u201cpresident of the Unites States\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cCould there ever be a better metaphor for this presidency than misspelling \u2018United States\u2019 on a document about super intelligence?\u201d Kimmel mused. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing these people can\u2019t screw up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

And on Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> checked in on the US Senate, where ailing former majority leader Mitch McConnell finally returned to work after a prolonged hospitalization. Meyers examined footage of a mute and dazed-looking McConnell headed to the Senate and concluded: \u201cThat does not look like a man who should be going back to work at the Senate. That looks like grandpa on his way to the home.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the expression on your face when they\u2019re driving you to the Soylent Green factory for processing,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo there have been some less than flattering moments in the recent history of the US Senate,\u201d he continued, \u201cbut I\u2019ve never seen something quite as pathetic as what happened on Tuesday, when Missouri senator Eric Schmitt questioned Jack Smith,\u201d the former special counsel who led multiple investigations into Trump after his first term as president.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you might recall, Trump has been obsessed with Jack Smith for years,\u201d Meyers noted, with the president frequently calling him \u201cderanged\u201d and \u201ca Trump hater\u201d.<\/p>\n

Meyers contrasted the many negative things Trump has said about Smith with his praise this week for the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un. \u201cHe\u2019s happens to be a friend of mine,\u201d said Trump. \u201cHe likes Trump, doesn\u2019t like a lot of other people. I\u2019m about the only person he likes in the world, and I like him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe probably likes you because when you\u2019re together, it\u2019s the only time he\u2019s not the craziest motherfucker in the room,\u201d Meyers retorted. \u201cIt\u2019s not a good thing if you\u2019re the only person a bad person likes! Replace Kim Jong-un with any other villain and you\u2019ll hear how bad it sounds \u2013 \u2018You know, people don\u2019t like when I say this, but Pennywise and I get along very well.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

But back to Schmitt, who tried to prove that Smith was, somehow, tied to a conspiracy involving elections in Georgia, with the key piece of evidence being Smith\u2019s alleged attendance at an Atlanta Hawks NBA game in 2024. \u201cThis is very hard to follow,\u201d said Meyers. \u201cIt seems as though he\u2019s trying to get Smith to admit that he attended a basketball game, which means \u2026 I\u2019m not quite sure what? He\u2019s talking like it\u2019s a smoking gun, when at best it\u2019s a banana with a cigarette taped to it?\u201d<\/p>\n

But it turns out that Schmitt\u2019s would-be slam dunk evidence of text messages about a \u201chawks game\u201d in fact confused the \u201cHawks\u201d, the Atlanta team, with the \u201cHawkeyes\u201d, the University of Iowa college basketball team that Smith did watch play in 2024.<\/p>\n
