California\u2019s attorney general has issued an investigative subpoena to OpenAI, starting an investigation into the startup \u2060as \u200bpart of a broader inquiry into potential cybersecurity vulnerabilities and incidents related \u2060to its AI models, his office said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Last month, Rob Bonta announced that \u2060the Department of Justice was conducting a formal \u200binvestigation into the \u201cHugging \u200cFace incident\u201d, amid increasing \u200cscrutiny of the AI industry. AI agents developed by OpenAI<\/a> hacked Hugging Face in July, gaining access to parts of the open-source platform\u2019s infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy office is \u200basking \u200bOpenAI additional questions \u200bregarding cybersecurity incidents and risks involving the \u200bcompany and \u200cits AI models,\u201d \u200bBonta said \u200bin a statement.<\/p>\n

OpenAI did not \u200cimmediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

The Federal Trade Commission is \u200cconducting an industry-wide investigation into Anthropic, OpenAI and other AI labs to uncover \u200bthe potential dangers their technology poses to consumers. The investigation is the first official US enforcement action \u2060that delves into rogue AI agents.<\/p>\n
