Luke Davies\u2019 family has cried as audio of a triple-zero call, placed from his phone on the morning he and his partner, Jesse Baird, were allegedly murdered, was played in court.<\/p>\n

The recording was aired in the New South Wales<\/a> supreme court on Friday during the double murder trial of former Sydney police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon.<\/p>\n

Lamarre-Condon, 31, has been accused of fatally shooting Davies and Baird with his police service weapon in Baird\u2019s Paddington home on 19 February 2024.<\/p>\n

He has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one charge of aggravated break and enter.<\/p>\n

Crown prosecutor Brett Hatfield SC told the court a call had been made to the emergency line from Davies\u2019 phone at 9.50am on Friday 19 February 2024.<\/p>\n

In the recording, movement can be heard before a muffled voice says \u201cfuck off\u201d. The call then drops out.<\/p>\n

An attempt to call back goes straight to voicemail where Davies says: \u201cHi, you\u2019ve reached Luke, please leave a message and I\u2019ll get back to you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police were sent to patrol the vicinity but were unable to pinpoint the exact address where the call originated.<\/p>\n

CCTV later played to the court showed Lamarre-Condon buying a second surfboard bag.<\/p>\n

In the footage, the officer walks straight to the surfboard section of the Decathlon in Miranda Westfield, picks up a cover and pays in cash.<\/p>\n

Davies and Bairds\u2019 bodies would be found days later in two surfboard bags near the fence line of a monastery in Bungonia.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Friday, Ben Higginson, who served with the NSW police force criminal investigation team in Sydney, told the court about working with Lamarre-Condon the day before Davies and Baird were killed.<\/p>\n

The two police officers had been working at a pro-Palestine protest on 18 February 2024 when Lamarre-Condon asked Higginson about work.<\/p>\n

Higginson replied that it had been a \u201cbit of a rough time\u201d as he had been investigating the murder of Lilie James<\/a>.<\/p>\n

James, 21, was a water polo coach at St Andrews Cathedral school who was killed by Paul Thijssen in October 2023 days after the pair broke up.<\/p>\n

CCTV captured Thijssen following James into the school\u2019s gymnasium with a hammer before her body was found. He later killed himself at the Vaucluse cliffs.<\/p>\n

Higginson became emotional when discussing the case with Lamarre-Condon, noting the crime had occurred at his old school, so it \u201chit home a bit more\u201d, the court was told on Friday.<\/p>\n

But when Lamarre-Condon asked about James\u2019s murder he seemed \u201cblase\u201d, Higginson told the court.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe thought Paul was stupid for doing it on CCTV,\u201d the police investigator said.<\/p>\n

Higginson told the court that Lamarre-Condon then asked if Thijssen hadn\u2019t committed suicide \u201cwould he have gotten away with it?\u201d<\/p>\n

The investigator said police didn\u2019t only rely on CCTV when examining a crime.<\/p>\n

Higginson brought up the 2007 death of Matthew Leveson and told Lamarre-Condon he \u201ccould remember the CCTV of [Leveson\u2019s] partner at Bunnings buying tarp, and he ended up burying him in the national park\u201d.<\/p>\n

Both police officers then spoke about how cash was more difficult to trace than bank cards and \u201cwhat avenues detectives look at for suspicious deaths\u201d, the court heard.<\/p>\n

When Lamarre-Condon asked about phones, Higginson said he responded: \u201cIf you were to leave your phone at home and commit a murder, the phone would be showing up in the vicinity of your residence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Higginson said the two weren\u2019t close, but they would chat at work, and he recalled Lamarre-Condon would tell him about his \u201cside-hustles\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cApparently he goes to France to buy Hermes bags and resell them here,\u201d he told the court.<\/p>\n

The defence lawyer John Stratton SC said during his opening statement that Baird and Davies were fatally shot in \u201cself-defence\u201d after struggles with the policeman.<\/p>\n

Lamarre-Condon immediately began cleaning up the scene because he \u201cpanicked\u201d, the jury was told.<\/p>\n
