{"id":913201,"date":"2026-10-02T07:42:14","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T07:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/913201\/"},"modified":"2026-10-02T07:42:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T07:42:14","slug":"product-recall-car-giant-toyota-expands-recall-to-nearly-50000-vehicles-over-seat-safety-defect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/913201\/","title":{"rendered":"Product recall: Car giant Toyota expands recall to nearly 50,000 vehicles over seat safety defect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Toyota has been forced to expand a recall after learning thousands of additional cars also contained the safety concern.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The Japanese car manufacturer issued an expansion to their March recall of Kluger cars earlier this week, due to a supplier fault impacting the return spring on the vehicle\u2019s second row seats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cA combination of recliner return spring orientation and outer clearance between the recliner guide and ratchet may cause the recliner teeth to not fully engage during seat back adjustment,\u201d Toyota said in a recall notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cThis may lead to the seat back not remaining in a locked position and failing to properly restrain occupants, which increases the risk of injury.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The recall initially affected 34,000 Klugers manufactured between March 31, 2021, and November 10, 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">It\u2019s now been expanded to include all Klugers made between November 11, 2023, and June 10, 2025 \u2014 an estimated 15,000 extra cars across Australia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">Replacement springs are being offered by Toyota, with the owners of involved vehicles urged to contact their dealership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">\u201cFor all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will replace the seat back return springs in the recliner assembly, free of charge to owners,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-9cqv6l-StyledPNParagraph e8utp6u0\">The major recall comes amid a highly successful year for Toyota, who were crowned Australia\u2019s most popular car brand back in April.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Toyota has been forced to expand a recall after learning thousands of additional cars also contained the safety&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":913202,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[64,63,99,44],"class_list":["post-913201","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-business","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-business","tag-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/913201","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=913201"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/913201\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/913202"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=913201"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=913201"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=913201"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
