Sucker Punch confirmed that Ghost of Y\u014dtei: Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted would become available on October 1 at 9:00 AM PDT \/ 12:00 PM EDT, playable once patch v2.0 goes live, and players have already found out what it takes to get Ghost of Tsushima\u2019s hero back. Jin Sakai isn\u2019t something you buy directly. He unlocks once you\u2019ve spent enough Mon on everything else.<\/p>\n

Video Games Chronicle puts the bar at 30,000 currency spent on techniques, weapons or shop items. Sportskeeda lists a slightly lower 28,800 total coins for Jin, with the characters unlocked in a fixed order. Both outlets describe the same system. The exact figure is a few hundred Mon apart depending on who you ask.<\/p>\n

Locking Jin behind a grind hasn\u2019t gone down well with everyone who paid for the upgrade:<\/p>\n

Jin Sakai Is the Last of Four Hunters in Most Wanted<\/p>\n

Most Wanted has a roster of four. Sportskeeda\u2019s breakdown has the spend thresholds stacked one after another: 3500 total coins for Oyuki, 10200 for Nagato and 28800 for Jin. You can\u2019t skip the queue. According to the same report, you have to unlock them in that order and can\u2019t put coins straight towards a later character like Jin.<\/p>\n

VGC\u2019s hands-on explains why. The extra characters unlock based on how much currency you\u2019ve spent upgrading the other characters, which stops players hoarding currency to save up for Jin instead of upgrading the others and getting further in each run. VGC also reports that higher-level hunts pay out more currency. So pushing difficulty is the quicker road.<\/p>\n

Our view: it\u2019s the right design, even if it stings. Banking Mon for 20 runs just to grab the famous guy would wreck the build-up that makes a roguelike like Hades or Returnal click. Spending forces you to actually learn Oyuki and Nagato first.<\/p>\n

Four Stances, Dance of Wrath and Ghost Stance Return With Jin<\/p>\n

Sucker Punch\u2019s own post on the PlayStation<\/a> Blog spells out the kit. Jin can use his katana with all four of the original stances from Ghost of Tsushima, and he starts with a Sticky Bomb and hankyu. His Ultimate and Kill Streak are lifted straight from 2020.<\/p>\n

Per the studio, his Ultimate is the \u201cDance of Wrath\u201d skill, which targets multiple enemies and disarms them, and his Kill Streak is Ghost Stance, which terrifies nearby enemies and kills a limited number of them in a single hit. The model isn\u2019t a straight port either. The animation and character art teams took his Ghost of Tsushima model and kept it faithful while applying upgrades for Ghost of Y\u014dtei.<\/p>\n

Runs follow a simple loop. You start by picking a bounty from the board, each tied to a different member of the Y\u014dtei Six, and you fight through waves of enemies and minibosses to reach them. Bounties can be replayed at higher difficulty levels, all leading up to the hardest bounty against Lord Saito himself.<\/p>\n

Most Wanted Costs $14.99 for Existing Ghost of Yotei Owners<\/p>\n

The mode isn\u2019t part of the free patch. FandomWire notes that owners can get the free v2.0 additions without buying anything, but the new expansion and Most Wanted need the $14.99 upgrade. That\u2019s a US price. Sony\u2019s US$14.99 upgrade covers both Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara, and you\u2019ll need to check the PlayStation Store for your local price.<\/p>\n

Australian and New Zealand players got it a day late. Sony\u2019s trailer listing states that Most Wanted is available October 2 in some territories including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. As of today, October 2, it\u2019s live locally.<\/p>\n

What everyone gets for free is smaller. The base-game update adds Beauty of Y\u014dtei, a mode for taking in Ezo\u2019s environments in Photo Mode, plus new Watanabe Mode tracks, transmog to split armour looks from stats, and a high-contrast accessibility setting.<\/p>\n

Sakai Armor and Other Most Wanted Cosmetics Carry Into the Campaign<\/p>\n

The grind pays out beyond the mode. Mon is spent outside runs on new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms and character unlocks, and Sony says cosmetics earned in Most Wanted can be worn in the main story and Echoes of Sekigahara. Sportskeeda reports some of those armours are nods to other games like The Last of Us and Astro Bot.<\/p>\n

Pre-order buyers skipped part of that. Anyone who pre-ordered the upgrade by September 30 gets the Sakai Armor for Atsu on October 1 without having to unlock it in Most Wanted first. Everyone else earns it the slow way.<\/p>\n

Expect the numbers to move.
