Judd Nelson ended up playing Bender alongside Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, and Emilio Estevez.<\/p>\n
Cusack was in one of Hughes\u2019 \u201cBrat Pack\u201d movies, however, playing Bryce in 1984\u2019s Sixteen Candles, which also starred Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall.<\/p>\n
When asked about being a \u201cteen idol\u201d at the time, Cusack said he was lucky because his parents kept him grounded, and he was never really taken with himself.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hadn\u2019t done anything, so I was never going to buy the hype or anything. I wanted to work with great people and do great movies, but I knew I hadn\u2019t done anything yet,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The 60-year-old said that his actor father, Dick Cusack, always told him \u201c\u2019to be a celebrity is death for an artist\u2019. He was about \u2018what\u2019s the script, what\u2019s the part, what\u2019s this thing saying, right?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
He said that rubbed off on him, adding that he \u201cdidn\u2019t take any of that (celebrity) stuff seriously as a teen\u201d.<\/p>\n
Sixteen Candles was one of Cusack\u2019s earliest roles, but he went on to classics like Stand By Me, Con Air, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Thin Red Line, Being John Malkovich, High Fidelity, and 2012.<\/p>\n
Cusack lamented that lately however, while many films globally are \u201cawesome,\u201d he feels American cinema has gone \u201cflat\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said when he acted in Say Anything in 1989, the producer had worked on \u201cseminal, amazing films\u201d like Paper Moon and The Last Picture Show, so \u201cher mindset wasn\u2019t \u2018How are we going to make the most money and who am I going to connect with here.\u2019 It was different values.\u201d<\/p>\n
