The Miami Heat<\/a> are currently preparing for the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season.<\/p>\n They began training camp on September 29 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida.<\/p>\n The Heat welcomed plenty of new faces like Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a>, Klay Thompson<\/a>, Bobby Portis<\/a> and Tim Hardaway Jr.<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n Miami Heat Guard Suffers Calf Injury Early in the Miami Heat\u2019s training camp, backup guard Dru Smith<\/a> reportedly suffered a calf injury.<\/p>\n According to Heat insider Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel<\/a>, Smith has been ruled out for roughly a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n \u201cDru Smith now out \u201ca couple of weeks\u201d for Heat with a strained right calf, further compromising depth at point guard,\u201d Winderman tweeted.<\/p>\n Aside from Smith, the Heat\u2019s point guard depth is a bit tight. Davion Mitchell<\/a> is the projected starter, with Smith as backup.<\/p>\n Ryan Conwell<\/a> and Pelle Larsson<\/a> are in-house options, but they are shooting guards. Dennis Smith Jr.<\/a> could earn a roster spot if he impresses at camp, while Tre Donaldson<\/a> is another option.<\/p>\n What Happened to Dru Smith? Speaking to Zachary Weinberger of ClutchPoints<\/a>, Dru Smith revealed how he suffered the right calf strain that would limit him for the next two weeks.<\/p>\n \u201cI went on a back cut, I just took a really big negative step,\u201d Smith said. \u201cNever, never good to be in that position. So, my calf just tweaked a little bit. Luckily, we got pretty good news\u2026shouldn\u2019t be nothing too crazy\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n Smith was also thankful that it wasn\u2019t a major injury that could have kept him out for a longer period.<\/p>\n \u201cObviously, I\u2019ve gotten a lot worse news over the years, so a couple weeks, something like that,\u201d Smith said<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s not the worst thing. Timing is terrible, obviously, very frustrating, but it is what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n The 28-year-old guard has had his fair share of injuries during his career. He suffered an ACL injury in November 2023, which ruled him out for the rest of the 2023-24 season.<\/p>\n Smith also endured a torn Achilles tendon early in the 2024-25 season.<\/p>\n Gabe Vincent Interest Just in case the Miami Heat want to improve their point guard depth, one of their options is Gabe Vincent<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Heat has been linked with Vincent this offseason, but a reunion hasn\u2019t come to fruition.<\/p>\n According to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald<\/a>, Vincent is the Heat\u2019s best option in free agency since players like D\u2019Angelo Russell<\/a> and Aaron Holiday<\/a> have taken their talents overseas.<\/p>\n Russell is in China, while Holiday signed with an Italian club.<\/p>\n Vincent was with the Heat from 2019 to 2023.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\tJuan Paolo David<\/a> Juan Paolo David is a sports journalist covering basketball for Heavy.
