{"id":914195,"date":"2026-10-03T03:20:15","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T03:20:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/914195\/"},"modified":"2026-10-03T03:20:15","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T03:20:15","slug":"supercars-tv-star-garth-tander-reveals-biggest-regret-of-racing-career","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/914195\/","title":{"rendered":"Supercars TV star Garth Tander reveals biggest regret of racing career"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THERE is one moment that stands out to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-8-Garth-Tander\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Garth Tander<\/a> as a regret from his illustrious Supercars career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His high-speed clash with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-18-Fabian-Coulthard\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fabian Coulthard<\/a>, 10 years ago on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tander was coming off a rollercoaster few weeks: he\u2019d won the Sandown 500 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-54-Warren-Luff\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Warren Luff<\/a>, days later been cut loose by the Holden Racing Team for 2017, and then challenged for Bathurst 1000 victory until a controversial incident with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.v8sleuth.com.au\/stats-driver-1-Jamie-Whincup\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jamie Whincup<\/a> and Scott McLaughlin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Come the streets of Surfers Paradise, he was growing increasingly frustrated trying to clear Coulthard for fifth place as the Saturday race edged towards its completion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then came a wild exchange that Tander describes as \u201cfar and away the biggest regret of my Supercars racing career\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was late in the 300-kilometre race and I\u2019d been stuck behind Fabian Coulthard for laps on end. Lap after lap I was stuck behind him. I was faster but couldn\u2019t quite nail a passing move,\u201d Tander wrote in his new autobiography, The Finish Line.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/superstore.v8sleuth.com.au\/products\/the-finish-line-garth-tander-autobiography-book?utm_source=website&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=buy-button&amp;utm_content=buy-button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/tander-finish-line.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd then I hit him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAt a rapid 265 kilometres per hour on the front straight past the pits, the relatively light hit into the left rear sent his DJR Team Penske Falcon hard left in an instant. It flew into the trackside wall made up of concrete blocks that each weigh a tonne.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHis car was smashed to pieces but still I felt I had done no wrong.
