A number of nutritional supplements have been recalled in California due to reasons ranging to fatal bacteria<\/a> to undeclared ingredients.<\/p>\n One of the recalled products could be contaminated with salmonella, according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.<\/p>\n The bacteria can \u201ccause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems,\u201d the CDC said.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s what shoppers should know:<\/p>\n Which supplement was recalled in California?<\/p>\n Foods Alive of Angola, Indiana, recalled moringa leaf powder<\/a> on Sept. 4 due to potential salmonella contamination.<\/p>\n Foods Alive said it initiated the recall after a supplier reported a sample of super green powder mix had tested positive for salmonella.<\/p>\n \u201cThe company has suspended production and distribution of these products while FDA and the company continue their investigation,\u201d Foods Alive said, adding that \u201cthe source of the problem has not been determined.\u201d<\/p>\n The recalled products come in 8-ounce stand-up pouches with a \u201cfreshest by\u201d date of Nov. 1, 2027, and the number 02726 below the date.<\/p>\n They were shipped between Jan. 27 and Aug. 7.<\/p>\n What are symptoms of salmonella?<\/p>\n People infected with salmonella can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, the CDC said.<\/p>\n \u201cIn rare circumstances, infection with salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis,\u201d the federal agency said.<\/p>\n No illnesses linked to the recalled moringa leaf powder have been reported as of Sept. 4.<\/p>\n Where was recalled moringa leaf powder sold?<\/p>\n Foods Alive said the recalled organic moringa leaf powder was distributed nationwide in retail stores and through online sellers including FoodsAlive.com..<\/p>\n Can I get a refund?<\/p>\n If you purchased the recalled organic moringa leaf powder, you can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund, according to Foods Alive.<\/p>\n For more information about the recall, contact Foods Alive at 260-488-4497<\/a>.<\/p>\n What other supplements were recalled recently?<\/p>\n According to the FDA and California Department of Public Health,<\/a> these supplements sold in California were also recalled in September:<\/p>\n A&P Creations biQ-Fell<\/p>\n On Sept. 15, A&P Creations LLC of Clermont, Florida, recalled certain lots of its biQ-FEL supplement because they contain undeclared ingredients<\/a>.<\/p>\n Sildenafil and tadalafil are active ingredients in Viagra and Cialis, prescription drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction.<\/p>\n \u201cFDA approval of Viagra and Cialis is restricted to use under the supervision of a licensed health care professional,\u201d the agency said, noting that the undeclared ingredients may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs and \u201clower blood pressure to dangerous levels.\u201d<\/p>\n The recall affects 500-milimeter bottles bearing the biQ-FEL name.<\/p>\n Look for this information:<\/p>\n Lot numbers: biQ-f001-06-25, biQ-003-01-26Expiration dates: May 6, 2027; Jan. 1, 2028UPC, barcode identifier: biQ-FEL, 7709799120663<\/p>\n The recalled products were distributed to U.S. consumers through Amazon, Walmart.com, and naturefuel.us.<\/p>\n Global Mix Tejocote capsules, pieces<\/p>\n On Sept. 21, New York-based company Global Mix Inc<\/a>. recalled five lots of niwali Tejocote Capsules and niwali Tejocate Pieces because the products appear to be yellow oleander.<\/p>\n \u201cAll parts of the yellow oleander plant are known to contain cardiac glycosides, which are highly toxic to humans and animals<\/a>,\u201d the FDA said, adding that ingesting the plant can cause \u201csevere or even fatal neurologic, gastrointestinal, and cardiovascular adverse health effects.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSymptoms may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, abdominal pain, changes in heart rhythm, arrhythmia and more,\u201d the FDA said.<\/p>\n The recalled products, which have \u201cbest-by\u201d dates of March 3, 2028, were sold eBay.com<\/a> and Everymarket.com.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cNo illnesses or adverse events have been reported to the company to date,\u201d the FDA said.<\/p>\n Loading\u2026<\/p>\n Related Stories from Sacramento Bee<\/p>\n
