FAGAN APOLOGISES FOR DOCKER DIG

Departed Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has reportedly apologised to Fremantle’s Jordan Clark for remarks made during his speech at the Lions’ best and fairest.

At the club’s end-of-season awards night on Thursday, Fagan gave a 30-minute speech throughout which he had his premiership players stand up as he addressed each of them.

When it was Darcy Wilmot’s turn, Fagan took the opportunity to have a crack at Clark’s All-Australian selection this year while praising his half-backer.

“I’m not an All-Australian selector, but it’s about time they picked you, I reckon,” Fagan said to Wilmot during his speech.

“If that Jordan Clark from Fremantle can get picked, I reckon you can … anyway.”

The comment earned a laugh from those in attendance at The Star in Brisbane.

But according to AFL Media’s Cal Twomey on Saturday, Fagan contacted Clark “to apologise and clear up his comments”.

Fagan’s remarks came on the same day it was officially confirmed that the 65-year-old would step away from his head-coaching mantle after winning his third premiership in charge last Saturday.

ROOS ‘FRONTRUNNER’ SPEAKS BEFORE BIG MEETING

Fremantle assistant Jaymie Graham said he was excited about potentially coaching the Kangaroos ahead of his trip east.

Graham is presenting to the North Melbourne coach selection panel — comprising Jennifer Watt (chair), Todd Viney, Andrew Swallow, Darren Crocker, Nick Dowling and Steele Sidebottom — on Saturday.

The 43-year-old was stopped for comment on Friday before his flight to Melbourne.

“I’m heading over there; I’m in the process, which is a good opportunity for myself,” he told 10 News.

“It’s an exciting opportunity if I was to be successful. Clearly, I’d like an opportunity.”

Graham, who fell short in his pursuits of the Essendon and Carlton roles earlier in the year, is considered one of the most ready assistants for the step up.

And according to Seven’s Tom Morris, alongside fellow contender Nathan Buckley, Graham is “widely seen as the frontrunner” in the race.

Hawthorn pair David Hale and Daniel Giansiracusa were also said to be formally presenting for the job, as was Roos assistant Xavier Clarke.
